PS Check the TDF is not on when you go otherwise you wont be riding the passes as they are all part of the TDF (or there abouts) (thumbs)

If you start where I have said and make your way to Briancon on the RDGA you will ride some of the high passes in the French Alps. Also 100km south is spectacular to. The RDGA is about 600-700km in all. You Would ride some of the best cols in the French Alps Col de Iseran, Galibier, Izoard, Bonnette...

Only a suggestion. Once your almost down there Why not make your way just south of Lake Geneva (Thanon Les Bains)and pick up the D902 Route Des Grandes Alpes. You wont be disappointed.

Sounds good; however if you are planning to be in the Alps in the 3rd week of your tour make sure you have a contingency route, although many of the lower Italian passes maybe open, the same may not be said for the higher ones. :dry:

Good to hear you stopped and checked he was OK. I was knocked off recently and to be fair the majority of car drivers and van drivers did stop and offer assistance, even the bus driver stopped. I stand at 6ft and my budget will be around the 8k but will go higher for the right bike. I like the idea of being able to see over the hedges :laugh: I used to have an R1100RT and rode many a good road abroad on that.
