Re: Kawasaki Versys 1000 2012
I've only just seen this thread. I had a 64 plate mk1 for about 18 months and did 13k miles on it before trading it in for a new BMW. They are a fantastic bike with a far better engine (IMO) than the BMW 1200LC. Really comfortable, really quick and not bad on fuel. I traded it in for the Beemer but ...

Re: france....why do you love it so much
I went touring around France a couple of years ago on my Versys and even though I had 8 days I was amazed at how big the place was. I know it's nearly 3 times the size of the UK etc but when you look at the map at the end of the day to see how far you have travelled in relation to the size of the co...

Re: First bike you took onto the Continent
2000, just bought my new CBR600 being in the Army and living in Germany had to ride back to the UK for leave. Very scary at the time.
First proper bike tour abroad was only about 5 years ago to the Alps, Italy, Austria on my Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Re: New shell policy
Its probably statistically in the same league as static charge from mobile phones causing fires. Are there any statistics on that? If something truly is dangerous there will be statistics on it. To be fair, though I don't know how a mobile phone starts a fire, no mobile phone use is universally ban...

Re: Be prepared!
I think the question for me is if I ever got the chance to go around the world would you A - go on a new bike which will probably be more reliable but if it goes wrong you haven't got any chance of fixing it or B - Get something older which you may have a chance of repairing. I personally wouldn't t...

Re: Shoot me please!
My favourite has to be the 48. I think it looks the bollocks and if it wasn't for the fact that I know it would only get used a few times a year I'd have one.

Re: Learning from last years mistakes
I had the same problem as you. I camped in April last year in the north of Scotland and ended up sleeping in all my bike gear and was still freezing. Probably the worse nights sleep I have ever had. I did some research and bought a better tent, a season 4 sleeping bag, and a cot to sleep on. I now s...
