Re: What's Your Biking Bench Mark?

A benchmark is a standard you compare against, surely, not what you think to be the best to try to better. My benchmark is my 1981 R80g/s which I've had since 2001. It's the bike I've ridden the most. My R1200GS is a faster, more modern and comfortable bike than the old'un. My Alp is less comfortabl...

Re: WANTED Beta Alp (350cc)...

They're the perfect bike for what they do. I had a great Saturday in Derbyshire, about 70 miles in the day, lots of lanes. Alp was great. It surprises me that no matter how poor I am at riding and what lumps and bumps I point it at, it just takes it in its stride. If you like the look of them, jump ...

Re: Top 10 'old school' adv bikes

For me they seem to have skipped a generation and missed out the mummy and daddy of the genre, namely, the XT500 and the R80g/s These two kicked it all off, but were still naked bikes, without all the plastics and screens. Obviously, it's only my opinion. Still, a bunch of lovely bikes, nonetheless.

Re: WANTED Beta Alp (350cc)...

I bought mine from Appleyards in Keighley. They said that they usually have one in the showroom but hadn't at the time of my request. What they did is a arranged for me to visit the UK Beta Importers 5 minutes away from their showroom to have a sit on John Jampkin's own Alp. Once I knew it fitted I ...

Re: WANTED Beta Alp (350cc)...

If you want it get it.

Although, a new one isn't that much more and it's always a great feeling to have a brand new bike.

I'm loving mine. Off to the Peak this weekend.

The sooner you get one Mike, the sooner you'll enjoy it.

Re: WANTED Beta Alp (350cc)...

I did get it from Appleyards. Main issues are that the fuel pipe from the tank to the carburettor was like cheese so replace Asap, and the little dash misbehaves when wet. Apart from that it's great. I did last year's Lands End Trial on it and am signed up for this year. Oh, the saddle is a bit hard...

Re: WANTED Beta Alp (350cc)...

Good luck with that. I love mine, but very rare.

I had to get mine new from the dealer in Keighley.

Re: What's it worth fellas

Just posted something and then re-read the OP. I'm such a twat sometimes.

I'm reserving comment at the moment until I've done some research.

Re-read everything. I agree with Andy B. What a sensible chap.
