I've tried all sorts and they all have their place, but for basic simplicity it is hard to beat a Trangia burning meths (they can also be fitted with petrol and gas conversions. Look up Trangia on youtube. Every time I go away with an alternative, at some point I wish I had my Trangia. Also of note,...

Cooking pot.
Stainless steel, copper bottomed, diameter 12cm, height 18cm, simple lid. The size designed to allow a coleman type C500 gas cartridge and a small screw on gas stove (disconnected) and pot grips to be fitted inside. No handles, I prefer to use pot grips.
