Re: What would put you off buying a GS1200/1250?

Nothing would put me off buying another one, bar the expense. They're a lot of cash these days and even second hand they're strong money. Back in 2015 I bought a 2014 ex Off Road Skills Bike, 9 months old, 3000 miles for £8700. I put 22,000 miles going across the USA and around Iceland, plus a lot o...

Re: The Royal Enfield Himalayan ,great value.

It'll be interesting to hear how you compare the Him to the MT350 in terms of weight. On paper the RE is almost 30 kilos heavier but I'd be surprised if that translated into the real world experience.

Re: Guzzi V85TT

Cheers Tink. Yeah I've got a couple of UK trips planned for it and a coast to coast US trip in August. I looked at a T7, a Vstrom 1050 and an AJP PR7 but the main riding I'll be doing is road stuff (I'll be keeping the Himalayan for falling off in the mud), so that ruled out the AJP and the T7 I jus...

Re: Guzzi V85TT

Just ordered a red one, delivery due in January. I'm hoping it'll be a good road based tourer, with a bit of gravel track for good measure.

Re: Great news! USA and Canada Insurance

I've just had an email from Cheryl at Fernet to say they're no longer offering their current policy for foreign nationals but hope to have something new up next year.

So that really just leaves Motorcycle Express and SG.

Re: Great news! USA and Canada Insurance

Yes we had that dilemma when the insurance issue first came up following GDPR. Some said use Progressive who ask for a US address. I spoke to Progressive who said they'd be happy to write up a policy and sell it to me, but pressed on the subject of whether they've honour it in the event of a claim a...

Re: Great news! USA and Canada Insurance

I reckon SG will be about half the price of Motorcycle Express, if not less, but you'll just have a lower level of cover. I had a look at the SG website and it would be $475 but I suspect you have to enter from Mexico to get this insurance. the only options for entry are through one of the US/Mexic...

Re: Great news! USA and Canada Insurance

I got the quote back, I am glad I was sat down at the time I opened it. $1942 for Comprehensive, Collision, Trip Interruption and Roadside assistance. This also includes Liability and Medical payments of $2,000. that quote is based on 6 months and me being 50 year old rider, my bike is a 2016 BMW R...

I imagine it could be a bit pricey. Another one to try is Fernet.

Just out of curiosity OnHellas, who did you self insure your bikes with to cover theft and damage?

Re: Great news! USA and Canada Insurance

Yes, it seems like they're the most comprehensive option available currently, with $300,000 third party liability, which isn't massive, but better than Seguro Gringo, a Mexican broker we had to use last time with a limit of $20,000.
