Depends on where you wish to come in from. If Austria you have a couple of options, you can come down via the Timmelsjoch pass or via the Grosslockner, both of which are tolls, expensive ones at that. Cortina is more or less the capital of the Dolomites and also the most expensive, I've always like ...

Yes it can be but it's a brilliant choice, absolutely loved mine and would've kept it forever had circumstances been different.

I'm 5.9 and managed perfectly fine, you'll love it.

As above, early September should be nice and toasty though I've found that anything before 10am can be a tad chilly on the hands, though it's been mid September when I've went, also it was more the Spanish Pyrenees I did.

These hills have an east coast look about them, not so sure there are many heather clad hills on the west coast or should I say most heather clad hills are east, but I don't recognise them.
