Re: DIY During the lockdown
I used a mix somwhere about 4-5 to 1 and a bit of lime chucked in. The lime works like a plasticiser, if starts to go stiff a cup of water and a quick stir around and it becomes fluid again . I literally chucked it in some of the bigger holes , plus a little trowel with the point cut off and the nos...

Re: DIY During the lockdown
Nice job, Steve. I've got a barn-door lintel just like this to do. Actually it's even worse. I've been leaving it because it's a bit scary, and I'm no builder. I've got hold a couple of akros. You might have given me the boost I need to get on with it this Summer. 20200424_154718.jpg 20200423_16415...

Re: DIY During the lockdown
The old lintels were , ' a bit rotten'. The bit of 4x2 is nothing to do with the job. 20200425_121104.jpg The metal strip is part of the steel tyre from an old horse drawn cart , you can see at the left where the old rotted lintel has been made up with concrete, the wood is absolutely crumbling away...

The big stone was going nowhere but down. Granite is very heavy, I couldn't even begin...

Re: Newbie from the sunny South Island of NZ
You are a lucky man to live there, especially now , welcome to the forum. I've been to NZ a few times ( Rellies) the North island is very nice, but it didn't take long driving from Picton to Nelson on the first leg of our 3 week South Island trip with the Grand Kids to realise that the South Island ...

Re: Street Riding Years - free download
I just wanted to say thanks for uploading your book for us to read. It brought back some memories of those times for me, which was for the most part pleasurable ( absent friends and all that lot). I know I have a problem putting a couple of thousand words together every month or two, so a hell of an...

Re: SORN your bikes
SORN'd 2 bikes but leaving 1 road ready, thinking about SORNing my car as the wife's is low emission taxfree so no point in SORNing. Any tax refunds come as a cheque, all the local banks have closed, so I suppose I have to drive/ride 10-15 miles to an open bank to put the refunds into the banking s...

Re: Covid 19 and non-tax payers
Yes but VAT is on "luxury goods" and Tax on alcohol is dependent on the percentage alcoholic content of the drink. Vat isn't a tax on Luxury goods , it's a tax on virtually all goods and services*. There was a time when it was at a higher rate for " luxury goods" , that is not t...
