Re: Go Big and Ride Small

Another vote for the V strom 250, mine is coming up to 20,000 miles now. I,ve toured all over the UK and Ireland with it and done umpteen tours of the NC500. I have a bigger V strom 650 which I keep for European tours but at 73 am now thinking of selling it and buying the the latest low mileage DL25...

Re: Statins ?

I'm on 40mg per day, have been for 3 years. Had a TIA at 70 and the doctor put me on them to reduce the chance of strokes. Incidentally he said I was doing well as all his other patients my age were on them. No side effects here either. To be honest my pride was a bit hurt when he prescribed them fo...

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?

maybe it is a mindset thing Johnny, you would have to try your local trails and see how it goes. In fairness all the stuff I do are land rover tracks, old railway lines, or bits of recognized long distance mountain bike trailsl. There are others on here who could answer your question better. My MO i...

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?

Think your choice of bikes is good Mark, I bought Cube because it was the only Hybrid/Mtb hardtail I could find with 36 spoke wheels, its a big deal for me at 100kgs.i expected to have replaced the wheels by now but they are still strong and true. 10k isn't a big deal if your retired, its only a cou...

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?

I'm another convert to the e bike for trail riding. At the start of lockdowns in 2020 I bought my first mid drive, its a Cube Cross Allroad with the fantastic Bosch CX gen 4 motor. In 3 years i have done almost 10k all over the UK and France. I have a 625w battery and can easily get 50 miles on a mi...

Re: Sleeping mats

I used a Exped Sim comfort 10 for years and it was fantastic till it eventually delaminated. On looking for a replacement I looked for a cheaper replacement and tried a Decathlon Air second, its bulky but at 15cm thick it is super comfy. There range goes from £12 to £70 you could have a look at them...

Re: Ferries to Ireland and other WAW questions.

Before you go download the Irish Met site, it has a rain forecast for a week which can be very handy for choosing where to start and which direction to go etc Its only a forecast but it has helped me dodge the rain https://www.met.ie/ I would get travel insurance, and one of these new UK global heal...

Re: ADV 350 - first impressions

I'll be following your progress too, I ran a Forza 300 for a year or so and liked it except for the rear suspension which was uncomfortable on the back roads in Scotland. I had considered a newish Forza 350 with a rear suspension upgrade but this adv 350 came along with Showa suspension so very keen...

Re: Rukka clothing

i have been using Rukka now for the last 5 or 6 years, I buy it all from ebay. Once you get to know your size you can always find nice stuff 2nd hand. I'm euro 60 for the winter that lets me keep the liners in and wear thermal stuff underneath. I have another suit size euro 58 for the summer no line...

Re: In praise of the humble V-Strom 650 XT - UK adventures

I have been following this with interest as i have 2 v stroms, a 650 and a 250. I bought the 250 for a tour of Ireland with my pal who only rides small bikes and generally doesn't go above 50 mph. That was last year and when I came back i modified the gearing which is pretty low geared. I upped the ...
