Re: To nod or not to nod
I nod thank you to all road users & deliberately nod a thank-you to a driver who stopped pulling out from a side road. You have to be careful with that. A few years ago my son was waiting to turn right into a side road and nodded his thanks to the driver of a car who stopped to give him the way...

Re: top apps for motorcyclists
I've come across a couple of apps like this one:

Hope you never need it, but it could be a lifesaver.

Oversuit for commuiting
Looks like I am going back to commuting on my bike, working in an office where suits and ties are de rigeur. Anyone got any good suggestions for an oversuit that I could just slip on over the office gear? The BMW Coverall seems one option, and I think there's something similar from Alpinestar and Ae...

Re: Problems with dirtbikexpress/Yodel
Turns out that Yodel just left the package in the garden shed at the address to which it was delivered -- the bloke living there just found it today and gave me a call. So much for Yodel's assertion that it had been signed for!

Re: Problems with dirtbikexpress/Yodel
Thanks for the suggestions -- Anthony's is appealing, but I don't know where their office is (maybe they deliberately keep that quiet to avoid this kind of thing). I think I'll go the credit card route, but definitely less satisfying.

Problems with dirtbikexpress/Yodel
I ordered a pair of Forcefield Zeus knee pads from dirtbikexpress last week -- and to my surprise, I received an email from Yodel telling me that they had been delivered. But I hadn't received them. Called up Yodel, who insisted that they had been delivered and signed for. I insisted that they had n...

Re: importing bikes
The regulations are there, but that isn't actually what happens 99% of the time in my opinion. On nearly all the grey imports over here the clocks are still KPH (without MPH overlays on analogue clocks either). Parallel imports are the same. The law is clear, and I don't see how one DVLA office cou...

Re: importing bikes
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/news-room/content/20140307IPR38424/html/MEPs-back-new-common-standards-for-vehicle-checks I don;t know whether anybody is reading this link but it changes everything. I am not convinced that this would actually change the requirement, enshrined in British law, ...

Re: importing bikes
I think you just had a bad experience with your import. I don't know anyone with a grey / parallel import that changed the clocks or had problems with the insurance. I don't think I had a bad expe rience -- I think it was a case of following current requirements. From https://www.gov.uk/importing-v...

Re: importing bikes
I have 4 bikes with KM/H clocks, never had a problem with MOT on any others either. Find a more friendly MOT station. The changes were nothing to do with the MOT. They were requirements imposed by the DVLA to register the bike on a UK numberplate. Without the changes to the clocks and the headlight...
