I had a few issues with my Lomo panniers last weekend, first time of using them they lasted 4 hours before the Velcro straps ripped out of the stitches...the bags weren’t overloaded, sleeping bag, clothes and cooking equipment etc. I did have a Rok strap around each bag (vertically). Someone I know went through the water this week so it can be too bad...personally I always use the bridge there’s some big rocks in the bottom..!

You should be still ok to go over the bridge...it doesn’t flood that bad in the summer..I’ll be up there on Sunday...

Any kind of hearing protection is better than nothing, but some are more comfortable to wear than others depending on your ear shape..the best one I ever had was the ones that are moulded into your ear..I had mine made at my local hearing aid shop, not cheap though...
