Have a look at the Versys 1000, quite a few guys have done the same swap, apparently its a bit more nimble and lighter too....and I really like mine

Sounds like a great trip, have a look at Air Canada, they do discounted bike shipping if you fly with them

If its the article I saw in Bike, he has a 5 gallon auxiliary on the back seat which would more than double his range and it also mentions that he does not use a tank bag to "aid" quick fuel stops, so maybe a 62mph is not so hard after all ?

I was a convert to heated kit a few years ago, started with a jacket and then added gloves and insoles, they are normally only on the lowest setting and as said above you always arrive warm and fresh. I made one for my old V a few years ago, it was more of a stone guard as it would not take the weight of the bike but helped protect the exhaust a bit.
