Sounds like 4pm is "backup-o'clock" or some other maintenance task kicking in and making the server busier than normal so less able to serve up content - should be a fairly easy thing to spot if that is the cause.

Ooo that's not good! Metallurgy aside you have to wonder at the marshalling during the event if the poor guy suffocated - is there not people with eyes on all parts of the track / circuit at these sorts of things?
