Re: KTM 450exc charging voltage.

Do not know anything about KTM's but usually when you rev the engine the charging voltage increases.

Re: Anyone know what textbooks/study material are used for m/c tech courses?

That new magazine out called "MCN Fixes" has a wealth of useful information and is worth the money £4.99. Not everybody will agree with all the stuff in the magazine, including me, but it is a good reference publication. Over time you develop the means to overcome the different challenges you find o...

Re: Ktm head bearings

I would only use tapered roller bearings for the head bearings. The cheaper ball races only seem to last about 30,000 km at the most these days. What is happening is that the point loading between the balls and the hardened steel raceway is so high because of all the pot holes in the roads that it i...

Re: Engine and frame paint

I use tractor paint, cellulose enamel, for painting things like pillar drills, very hard with good chemical resistance but not very good at covering up blemishes.

Re: Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Ténéré heads up for clutch casing cracks

Checked my 2011 S10 clutch casing, no cracks visible.

Maybe caused by someone over tightening the clutch casing screws?

Re: XT1200Z, not idling properly

Made up a water deflector plate for the S10, a bit more complicated than the double sided tape approach.
I have used some plastic plugs and threaded inserts to hold the plate.
It has not fallen off the bike yet.
If you have a milling machine you could make up some aluminium inserts.
File attached.

Re: Bike tips and tricks

If the bike is running and you hit the kill switch, the low beam remains on, if you switch on the bike with the kill switch on, only the side lights are on and you take a lot less power out of the battery.

Bike tips and tricks

XT660Z. So you are waiting at the side of the road for your mate to come and do not want to keep the engine running. Flick on the kill switch and switch on the ignition, sit in gear, rear light and front side lights are on. If you want low beam on at the front, you have to start the bike and then fl...
