Re: Oil ASI specs?

I think you need to be using mineral oils in old british bikes, they were never designed for synthetic oils and tend to suffer with seizures on rocker shafts etc. I've seen a massive difference in the oil film left by synthetics though, years ago synthetics used to run off and leave practically no ...

Re: Oil ASI specs?

I'd have thought a 1959 British motorcycle engine would be happiest on monograde, 20W in Winter and 50W in Summer. When I worked in the motorcycle shop in the late 1970s there was a bloke who used to come in very regularly on an old Brit single and buy 4 litres of Castrol GP 10W-40. I wondered what ...

Re: France has made CE Gloves compulsory

There seem to be loads of laws in France, where the biggest crime is getting caught. I'm told the French plod refused to enforce the breath-test one because French citizens were retaliating by demanding that the plod blow into the bag, knowing that if it was after lunch they'd be absolutely hammered...

Re: Oil ASI specs?

As above,or Morris? http://www.morrislubricantsonline.co.uk/golden-film-sae-20-classic-motor-oil.html I was talking to a bloke who worked for Morris a couple of years ago. He said they still did a full range of oils for steam engines...and the family that owns Morris Oils tests them in its own stea...

Re: France has made CE Gloves compulsory

I think you can buy CE approved gloves in farm shops, builders merchants, garden centres etc at modest prices. I recall a case some years ago when someone who had sustained a hand injury wearing some big-name glove with armour etc costing ££££ wrote to the importers and asked what the intended prote...

From the trade mag British Dealer News Late last year, it became obligatory in France for riders and pillion passengers on any motorcycle or scooter to wear CE-approved gloves. Failure to do so now results in an on-the-spot fine – and possible penalty points. Relevant labelling will mention the stan...

Re: New Chain

You can either buy the tool and do it on your own, or get someone to help you and do it this way. Get your assistant to hold a lump hammer behind the fitted link while it is on the rear sprocket, and carefully spread the two rivet ends of the link using a ball-pein hammer and a suitable punch. Care ...

Re: Trail info elan valley.

To be fair, Monks Trod was once a classic trail that you could get a Transit van across in summer. But the road has gradually become engulfed in peat moss, and people (esp in 4x4s) started driving off-piste until the original route was lost. I know at one time it had a complete TRO on it...it was so...
