Head south or east of Austria and you'll need one quite frequently now. You also get asked for your passport when checking into hotels because we don't have an ID card and most places won't accept a driving licence. Guess I've just been lucky then. I've been in France 16 years now, also tour all over Europe.
I have never had to show my passport, except when leaving bloody UK. :angry:

I also suffer with Tinnitus, so know your pain (ExMarine Engineer) I can't give you a recommended for a good flip up. But I bought a Shark Evo3. It is the worst helmet for wind noise I've ever had. With the flip down it's noisier than my Arai Freeway openface. So recommend staying away from the Evo3...

Just filled up near Ruffec (Charente) 30€ limit, no cans!.
Going to Poitiers airport tomorrow, so that'll be gone.
Hope I can get some in Poitiers, otherwise I may be pushing it home. :dry:
