+1 for top heavy compared to a Boxer twin. This comes into play mainly when wheeling the bike around (especially if loaded on a trip) if you’re not tall.

Test ride both bikes, that way you can wheel them round and pop them on the centre stand to see how they feel in the real world.

I’ve always liked the look of the KLX250 - I know that the CRF250L has a smooth novice friendly engine, how does the KLX compare?

As it’s obviously a faulty product I reckon you can take it back for an exchange. Shoei are a quality product, it must have some sort of guarantee?
