Re: bikehike.co.uk died?

Magic Map also provides OS mapping (without the need for an OS subscription), so useful for green lane research (though not a route planner): https://magic.defra.gov.uk/MagicMap.aspx

Re: bikehike.co.uk died?

www,myrouteapp.com has a free and paid version. The major difference between the two is that the paid version offers the choice of additional mapping providers (Google, Michelin etc.). You can upload routes, create new ones and download them in a variety of formats (including GPX). Worth a look.

<snip>You might also notice the spiteful nature of the wording on this and many other remain zealot's musings, which sort of weakens the case often shouted out loudly (with accompanying frothing at the mouth) that leavers are the nasty natured ones in all this As I said 3 years ago on this thread: ...

Re: What3words app?

On a similar subject, does anyone know of an app which enables you to just hit a button to record your current location? The use case is you're riding along, see a road/object of interest, don't have time/want to stop and explore further, so you make a note and look online/some other time.

Re: What3words app?

Admittedly I fall firmly on the 'everything should be open-source' side of the fence, so am probably not best placed to make a judgement there. I've been open source and (almost entirely) Windows free for about 2 years now too :-) (Settled on KDE Neon, quite quickly. It's awesome) I do think a few ...

Re: What3words app?

Here's a link to an article discussing a few issues with the W3W system. https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2019/03/why-bother-with-what-three-words/ That article comes across as a rant about closed source vs open source. He might just as well have ranted about Microsoft Office, or Adobe Photoshop, or macOS ...

Re: Dash cameras etc illegal in certain countrys abroad

You are allowed to take photos of people (without their permission) in a public place in the UK, including for commercial gain. Some places which you might think are public are in fact not (e.g., a shopping centre). Both you and the other person/people have to be on public land.

<snip> I found a tick on my ankle and I made a little tick remover from a loyalty card and used to totally fail to sort the tick out. I set off around 07:00 with its head still stuck in me. <snip>
You need to get that sorted asap - like, very urgently!!!!!!

Re: Recommendations for Garage Lighting

I bought one of these for the bench. Quite handy, and swings out the way when you don't need it.

Perhaps it's time for something inbetween as the air ambulances work alongside the ambulance service and other emergency services the goverment could provide funding contribution but allow them to keep the charitable status if they wish. [et al]
