Among the fold was a Kawasaki ZZR, 2011 Honda Crossrunner, 1992 Honda CBR 900 RR (Fireblade), 2006 BMW 1200 GS, Honda CBR 600, Suzuki GSXR 600, and a Harley Davidson Sportster 883 ridden by vet Professor Knottenbelt, who’d never sat on a motorcycle before!

“The plight of working animals and how important they are to people living in some of the world’s poorest countries is often forgotten,” explains novice biker Professor Knottenbelt, who came up with the idea of  doing a Vets with Horsepower tour.

“Myself and the other vets who take part in the tour feel very strongly about working animals and we wanted to do something that would bring this issue to the fore.”

The money raised by the motorbiking vets will go to the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (SPANA), World Horse Welfare (WHW) and the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA). It will help to buy equipment for equine hospitals in northwest Africa and the improvement of equine facilities in Ireland, as well as helping those people who rely on working animals to support their livelihood.

Donations to the motorbiking vets are still open at https://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/donate/
