‘Granddad Kenny’ hopes to raise £10,000 for Aleisha and specialist learning facility Heatherwood School, to fund much-need equipment which will help her develop and enjoy life to the full.

“My normal excursions are out to the countryside or coast when time permits, so to be honest, this sponsored ride is a big challenge for me!” says Kenny, who’s been biking for the past 40 years. “But I’m looking forward to completing it for my little granddaughter Aleisha, because it could make a tremendous difference to her and her friends.”

Kenny set off from Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, on 4 June and is currently 525 miles north in Lochinver, in the north of Scotland.

“He’s doing so well!” says daughter Cheryl, “and he’s right on schedule too! Today he’s travelling to Fort William and then he’ll begin to ride down the west coast, where he has some very long stints indeed. He seems to be enjoying the ride, despite the wind and rain that has prevailed over the last few days. Some of the roads sound good fun, too!”
