Riders for health is an award-winning charity working in Zimbabwe, the Gambia, Lesotho, Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia. It provides support to ministries of health and smaller community based organisations, helping manage and maintain two- and four-wheeled vehicles for outreach health workers, allowing them to reach rural villages. It also helps train health workers to drive and ride safely. “It’s amazing to see that the machine that gives us all so much pleasure – the motorcycle – is having such a huge impact on people’s lives in Africa,” explains Riders for Health co-founder Mamola. “Last year I had the most incredible ten days riding in the wonderful country of Lesotho and now I am looking forward to visiting Zambia.” As well as seeing game parks and the Victoria Falls, Mamola, Bautista and their fellow adventurers will visit clinics, ride with health workers and spend time in communities that are benefitting from the help of Riders for Heath. “I have been a supporter of Riders for Health for a long time and I can’t wait to see the work that they are doing.” says Bautista. There are limited places available on the Riders for Health Experience Africa challenge for November 2011. Details of the ride will be released soon.
