A total of 45 van-mounted mobile cameras will aim to provide over 6,000 hours of speed checks across the country. Some 600 areas, 60 of which are in Dublin, will be periodically monitored by the transit vans, which are bright yellow and clearly marked as speed-monitoring devices.

Although the new Scheme will have no impact on speeding enforcement currently carried out by the Garda, motorists caught speeding by the new cameras will be liable to incur penalty points and fines of up to 80 euro, which will be administered by the Garda.
