Spencer Conway has chosen to fundraise for Save the Children as he believes:
“The merits of Save the Children are self-evident as ALL children deserve proper healthcare, food, education and protection. Although completing the trip would be an achievement in itself, I have decided to try and raise £28,000 for Save the Children, making this endeavour infinitely more worthwhile.”
Throughout his adventure, Conway has recorded his extraordinary experiences, recounting everything including his escape from bandits, the odd robbery and stone showers. But, from a continent of contrasts, he also talks fondly about the hospitality of the local communities and the beauty of the African landscape.
Spencer has undertaken this budget trip unaccompanied, camping all the way and relying on the hospitality of the local people. He has made numerous local TV and radio appearances across Africa, promoting his trip and Save the Children’s work.
Lucy Mousdale from Supporter Relations & Fundraising at Save the Children said:
“Save the Children has been blown away by Spencer’s fantastic support over the past year. He and his entire family have worked tirelessly over the past year to raise an incredible amount of money that will make such a difference to vulnerable children around the world. We have been fascinated by his blogs and hearing about his adventure. It would be amazing if we could celebrate Spencer’s homecoming by smashing his £28,000 pledge”
