Speaking about his plans, Pat said: “This will be quite a journey, and certainly the most ambitious I’ve attempted. I’ve decided to use a Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere called ‘Idris’ for the trip, as it offers a good balance of on-and off-road capability, good fuel consumption, easy maintenance and a track record for reliability. It’s also small enough that I can pick it up on my own!”
Pat is expecting to “pass through some of the friendliest countries in the world and see some of the most spectacular scenery.” But adds that he will also be riding “some of the world’s most dangerous roads, possibly in extreme weather conditions.”
The aim of the journey is to raise both awareness and funding for UNICEF’s work helping disadvantaged children around the world. The cause is close to Pat’s heart, having worked in international education field for many years.
