Bike Stop's Season Opener is a success
Written by Bryn
Thursday, 17 April 2014 14:10

Bike Stop held their biggest ever event on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of April to kick off the start of the 2014 motorcycling season and it was a great success.

The motorcycle shop, located in Stevenage, threw their biggest event yet to kick off the 2014 season in style. Despite warnings of bad weather, the sun made an appearance and the barbecue went down a treat. 12 time world trials champion, Dougie Lampkin, also made an appearance and wowed the crowd as he rode through the store, performed some tricks on his ramp and even rode over some willing spectators!

KTM 1190 Adventure R arrives at ABR HQ
Written by Nathan
Friday, 04 April 2014 14:30

A new arrival for the next few weeks as the 1190 Adventure R arrives at ABR HQ. First impressions are really positive; it feels light, agile, manageable; a very different bike to the R1200 GSA that we've also been riding in recent weeks.

Being the R model (as opposed to the standard Adventure model) it has the 21-inch rear wheel, 18-inch rear wheel, increased ground clearance, shorter screen, wider bars and, on this bike, the knobbly tyres. It doesn't however come with the electronic suspension of the standard bike, but is still fully adjustable, with four different riding modes (rain, street, race, off-road) easily switchable using the thumb controls on the left hand.

What's to blame for the recent decline in new riders?
Written by Bryn
Wednesday, 26 February 2014 10:07

There seems to be a feeling within the motorcycle industry that the number of new riders is in decline with less and less people opting to experience life on two wheels. If you were to then ask why this is, there would be a mixture of responses. 'There's not enough to promote the benefits to new riders', 'there's a negative association with motorcycling', 'it's too expensive to learn' and 'the licensing is too confusing and off putting'.

Whether these feeling are justified or not we'll go into a bit later, but given the above it's then surprising to hear that over the last few years the number of people taking their module 1 & 2 tests has actually been increasing.

According to stats put forward by the DSA the number of people taking their tests has been increasing steadily since 2009, as shown in the table below, apart from the most recent data available, from 2013-2014, which shows a huge decrease in the number of tests taken.

5 lessons we learned while riding to Rangoon
Written by Andy
Monday, 03 February 2014 15:57

Andy and Emilie recently rode a Royal Enfield motorcycle from Delhi, India to Yangon, Myanmar, passing through Nepal and Bhutan along the way. This made them the first foreigners to cross independently and under their own steam from India into Myanmar in several decades.

The seven week, 6,500 km odyssey took them through high mountains and dense jungle and across some of the dodgiest regions and worst roads that the world has to offer. Having finally made it safe and sound back to Yangon, in this article they tell us five big lessons that they learned from the trip.

Video: Knee dragging to head dragging
Written by Bryn
Friday, 24 January 2014 15:41

You've heard of 'getting your knee down' when cornering, but have you ever heard of getting your head down?

Aside from unintentional helmet to concrete accidents, I didn't think so, which is what makes this video so awesome. It shows two guys riding around a track doing some pretty impressive cornering and the lead rider decides to lean so far that his helmet grazes the tarmac – insane riders and insane viewing! Watch the video by clicking 'read more'.
