Prices announced for KTM 1190 Adventure

KTM has now confirmed the prices of the new 1190 Adventure and Adventure R at £12,595 and £13,195 respectively. Earlier this month we reported on the unveiling of the Austrian brand’s new 1190 Adventure series - to see the full specifications check out the article here.

The bikes will be shown in the UK for the first time at Motorcycle Live at the NEC in Birmingham between 24 November and 2 December, and will be available to purchase in dealers from March 2013.

Pyle brothers complete epic India ride

We've just received word at ABR HQ that Canadian brothers Ryan and Colin Pyle have successfully completed their 60-day, 8,700-mile motorcycle expedition around India.

The brothers, who set a GWR in 2010 with their 38,400-mile Middle Kingdom Ride, becoming the first riders to fully circumnavigate China by motorbike, set off from New Delhi on 26 August.

First ever round-the-world tour recreated

Two adventurers from Northern Ireland, author Geoff Hill and former road racer Gary Walker, have set off from Dublin on the first leg of an 18,000 mile round-the-world expedition. The duo aim to replicate the adventure undertaken by Irish-American writer, and silent film director, Carl Stearns Clancy in 1912-1913 who was the first person ever to ride around the world on a motorcycle.

 

Geoff, 56, said: "Today we are setting off on a very momentous occasion, marking exactly one century to the day that the very first motorcyclists set off to ride around the world.” Gary, 50, continued: "I've been riding a very long time, and I've been a road racer for many years, but this is without a doubt the biggest two-wheeled adventure of my life.”

New enduro tyres from Metzeler

German motorcycle tyre manufacturer, Metzeler, has unveiled its new enduro street tyre, the Tourance Next. Metzeler claim the new tyre sets a high standard for grip and safety on wet roads. The structure and profiles of the Tourance Next were specifically designed for large, new concept enduro bikes, with particular attention paid to stability at high speeds, and bikes loaded down with a top box and passenger.

The profiles were designed to absorb bumps in the asphalt to retain balance, and for optimal interaction with the ABS and braking system.

EagleRider launches Easy Rider movie tour

More than 40 years ago, the movie Easy Rider introduced the world to motorcycles. In 2013, EagleRider, motorcycle rental and tour company, is making it a reality by re-tracing the exact route of the movie on an Easy Rider Movie Tour.

“No other movie has had a profound effect on the motorcycle world like Easy Rider has,” said Chris McIntyre, president of EagleRider. “The success of the tour will hopefully pave the way for us to offer additional motorcycle movie tours in the future.”

BMW Motorrad seeks ABRs for the ultimate round-the-world test ride

BMW Motorrad is offering ABRs the chance to take the all-new 2013 R 1200 GS on a round-the-world, all expenses paid, overland expedition. Five riders will be selected by a panel of experts to ride a leg through one of five continents on the “One World. One R 1200 GS” tour.

“The all-new R 1200 GS has set the bar higher than ever for adventure sports motorcycles. We believe the R 1200 GS can tackle just about anything the world can throw at it,” said Tony Jakeman, marketing manager for BMW Motorrad UK. “The new GS will be put through its paces on some of the toughest terrain in the world, and give five riders the adventure of a lifetime.”

Student explorer returns for start of term

University of Nottingham student has arrived back in the UK just in time for the resumption of his course, after travelling more than 12,000 miles aboard a 110cc scooter. Ahmed Mashadani decided to drive from the University’s Malaysia campus, where he completed the second year of his Management degree, to Nottingham during the summer holidays, in order to raise money for the Red Cross.

After completing the epic journey, he said: “20,385 km, 22 countries, a lot of flat tyres and three months of sleeping in the ‘wild’ is now done. No more asking for directions, fighting traffic, being cold and having to deal with passport control. And I miss it all already.”
