Tuesday's travel tip: Sleeping mats
Written by Bryn
Tuesday, 06 August 2013 15:49

A wise man once told me that sleep is one of the most important things our body needs in order to function properly. Without it we're boring caffeine-fuelled zombies who are incapable of doing much at all, but with it we're happy, alert, and most importantly, ready to ride.

According to the National Institute of Health, the required amount of sleep for the average adult is eight hours. That means (if you're average) you're spending toughly 33 percent of your adventures tucked up in a sleeping bag catching some Z's.

Given this information, it seems all the more likely that you'll want to make your sleeping area as warm and as comfortable as possible.

ABR Weekend Weather
Written by Bryn
Friday, 02 August 2013 12:46

With the exception of the crazy warm day we had yesterday, this weekend has seen a return to what we would consider a typical British summer, we've had rain, we've had a lot of cloud cover and if its been warm, its been the muggy, suffocating heat that's crying out for a thunderstorm to clear the air.

Will things get more favourable over the weekend though?

Advertising Feature: Tips for biking in Europe
Written by Amber Howard
Friday, 02 August 2013 11:23

Preparing for a motorcycle tour or holiday can be quite difficult; unlike a trip in the car, you can’t stock up and fill the boot with everything you may need for your trip. Motorcycling is almost like backpacking; you need to do your research and you can only bring as much as you can carry, and only the essentials.

However, how do you decide what is essential from what is just ‘useful’? A good place to start is to check the laws and regulations of your chosen destination(s). There are certain things which you must know, remember and carry to meet the requirements of certain countries.

On test: Storm Helmet Deodoriser
Written by paul Jennison
Thursday, 01 August 2013 15:59
Adventure Bike Rider gear editor Paul Jennison takes a look at Storm's helmet deodoriser, a deodorising spray designed specifically for motorcycle helmets. Does it work at keeping your lid smelling sweet and fresh? Click 'Read more' to find out.     The timing couldn’t really have been better when I received some helmet after care products to review. Our summer had arrived with such a ferocity that caught many of us pleasantly off-guard. Temperatures in the high 20’s Celsius have become something of a rarity over the last few so called summers. Prolonged riding in hot weather is going to make the inside of any motorcycle helmet  sweaty, damp and smelling something like the British and Irish Lions post match laundry basket.   Storm DFX has developed a spray on deodoriser which can be used on helmet liners (as well as your boots and gloves if they need it) which kills the odour producing bacteria making the insides cleaner and fresher again. The spray contains silver technology which is a well-known anti-bacterial agent that is also hypoallergenic so it's safe on most skin types. The chemicals in the spray can be used on numerous fabrics and will not degrade the materials. I have used the deodoriser on my regular lid and it freshened up the linings making them a pleasant place to put my head in again. A 75ml bottle has a RRP of £5.50 and stockists can be found by visiting: www.stormwaterproofing.com

ABR Pic of the Week winner announced
Written by Bryn
Thursday, 01 August 2013 14:46

Entries for this week's 'Pic of the Week' are now closed which means it's time to announce the winner! We were sent in some awesome photo's and, as always, choosing a winner proved to be a very difficult task so we sealed the doors of ABR towers and began our Pic of the Week conclave.

After a few hours of deliberation, white smoke drifted from our chimney and we'd decided which pic was best. So, without further ado, we are pleased to announce that this week's winner is...Tony Gill (a.k.a Browndog on the ABR forums) with this fantastic shot which he took on the Stella Alpina earlier this year!

Congratulations to Tony, the proud new owner of an ABR beanie and two ABR stickers!

As I mentioned, we were sent in some cracking shots this week so click 'Read more' to see this week's runners up.

ABR Weekend Weather
Written by Bryn
Friday, 26 July 2013 09:40

In the past week we've seen a bit of a change from the sweltering heat and blue skies that were so uncharacteristic of UK summers, thunderstorms have been rolling their way through the country and heavy rain has followed. The temperatures remained fairly hot though and we've still had our fair share of beautiful biking days.

The weekend though, is looking a little grim. The only 'nice' thing going for it is the fact that temperatures will stay fairly warm, hovering around the high teens and low twenties, similar to what we've experienced this past week.
