Student explorer returns for start of term

University of Nottingham student has arrived back in the UK just in time for the resumption of his course, after travelling more than 12,000 miles aboard a 110cc scooter. Ahmed Mashadani decided to drive from the University’s Malaysia campus, where he completed the second year of his Management degree, to Nottingham during the summer holidays, in order to raise money for the Red Cross.

After completing the epic journey, he said: “20,385 km, 22 countries, a lot of flat tyres and three months of sleeping in the ‘wild’ is now done. No more asking for directions, fighting traffic, being cold and having to deal with passport control. And I miss it all already.”

Showtime at Intermot: KTM presents a new generation of adventure

The world premiere of two new motorcycles is being celebrated at the international motorcycle fair, Intermot, that will take place from 3 to 7 October in Cologne, Germany. KTM will present the 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R which herald the start of the new Adventure Generation as of February 2013.

The bikes are differently positioned, sports-oriented touring bikes with powerful two cylinder motors and light chassis. The 1190 Adventure is above all focused for use on tarmac; the use of wide 19in front and 17in rear tyres is especially for the pleasure of versatile road users. The Adventure R shows what is feasible from a sporting perspective and enables you to undertake plenty of off-road action with its 21in and 18in wheels and longer travel suspension.

MotoDirect to Launch Improved Arai Dealerships

MotoDirect are pleased to announce that from September 2012 Arai dealerships will be new and improved, each staffed by specially trained assistants in an attempt to “take that [Arai] experience to another level”.

Maintaining that “Arai is in your D.N.A” MotoDirect, who acquired Arai earlier this year, are calling the new dealerships Arai D.N.A Centres. They have taken at least one staff member from each dealership to Arai Europe’s inspiration centre in Holland for a full day of factory training, meriting each of them with the status “Arai Specialist”.

Update on New BMW Bristol Dealership: Now Open

We recently reported on the newest dealership to partner BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna, which has now opened earlier than expected.  We have been informed that the Dick Lovett Motorrad dealership is ready for business with their brand new purpose built showroom housing all the latest bike models, including the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure and the NUDA 900R from Husqvarna.

They will no longer be hosting the opening weekend scheduled for 22-23 September, but you can head there today to check out the fully fitted 5 bay workshop, find out information about their motorcycles, equipment, ride-out routes or just have a chat with a fellow biker.

GlobeBusters Southern Africa Tour

GlobeBusters AfricaThis September, well known overlanding motorcycle expedition company GlobeBusters, will send forth a team of ABRs on the company’s inaugural tour of Southern Africa.

The trip will depart Nairobi on September 18 and will launch the adventure seekers on a 5,500 mile voyage to the very tip of South Africa crossing eight countries in five weeks. The tour will zig zag across the continent taking in Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, the spice island of Zanzibar, Lake Malawi, Livingstone and the Victoria Falls, Etosha National Park, the Skeleton Coast and the Kalahari Desert.

The owner of a North Wales motorcycle dealership is midway through an attempt to cover 11,000 miles in 11 weeks, to reach his penultimate destination – China.

Jeff Pritchard of Colwyn Bay Motorcycles set out from his home in Conwy on 18 August aboard his BMW R 100 GS. He’s already successfully tackled the UK, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine, and latest reports confirm that Jeff and his team have now reached the border with Russia.

Advanced rider training at Silverstone

Following its successful UK launch in July this year, ABRs will have another opportunity to hone their riding skills at an Advanced Rider Technique (ART) course on Friday 12 October at Silverstone.

ART is based on a training programme devised by 'cornering guru' Keith Code for the United States Marine Corps. Designed to help overcome the common control errors that affect novice and experienced motorcyclists alike, ART was commissioned to help reduce serious motorcycle accidents among off-duty military personnel.
