Just got these and not used them in anger as yet.

Easy to fit to my F650GS Twin and wide compared to bars. Rigging extensions to bars as a width gauge! (with blind spot mirrors on ends), but apart from that I am very pleased with both the service provided by Stahlkoffer and the quality of the product supplied

This week I have become the proud owner of a pair of Stahlkoffer City Panniers for my 1200GS. The City is the slightly narrower version of the two sizes of pannier on offer from Stahlkoffer and comes complete with all the mounting hardware you need to fit them to your bike. For some time I have been looking for a more robust alternative to my BMW Vario panniers and I must say I am delighted with the result.
Bernie the MD of Stahlkoffer is a credit to his business. He takes great pride in his products and is a keen motorcyclist himself with a passion for touring. The result is products designed and developed by someone who actually uses them himself and it shows.
Compared to my Varios (and many other panniers I have experienced over the years) not only are my new panniers very well made and great looking but are also a pleasure to use, with fully removable lockable lids and a simple but effective mounting system which does not encroach in the inside of the boxes at all resulting in a completely smooth interior with nothing to snag items being stashed. The panniers have a tough powder coated finish which is infinitely more durable than the Vario’s they have replaced. They are fitted with inner bags which follow the same high standards of attention to detail, for example one bag opens at the top allowing access to the contents while still inside the pannier while the other side opens more like a conventional suitcase making it ideal for packing clothing. The inner bags are both padded and waterproof (although they do not need to be as the panniers are 100% watertight themselves) and have a shoulder strap.
Installation took me less than half an hour with everything fitting exactly as it should and would be well within the capability of most people. Failing this they will fit them for you for a nominal fee.
When I discovered Stahlkoffer panniers (a new name to me I must admit) I was first attracted to the price which was a fraction of that of several of their competitors. I expected this to be reflected in their quality and prepared myself to be disappointed on my visit to their premises. How wrong I was! Adventure Bike Rider have got their rating spot on in my opinion with these panniers beating several of the more expensive opposition and not rated much below panniers costing more than twice as much!
Bernie took great pride in showing me some panniers that had been returned to him still intact from a customer who had been round the world with them. This person had been so impressed that he was now replacing them with the new improved version Bernie sells now. You will not get a better testimony than that. I look forward to one day doing the same!
All I can say is, if you are in the market for some aluminium panniers (they make kits for several makes and models) do yourself a favour and take a look......I think you will be impressed!

My BMW 1150GS Adventure came with the original OEM BMW panniers. I’ve never been a big fan of them so I decide to replace them with aftermarket panniers. I considered a few different makes and models and eventually decided on the Stahlkoffers. I found them to be practical, durable and they are better priced than most of the other brands.

I really like the Stahlkoffers, they have a well thought out and practical design. The panniers feel very sturdy. The design means that you can remove the lids without first removing everything that is strapped to them.

The panniers are built to order, so you have quite a few options for pimping your panniers. I went for the gunmetal grey powder coated finish with black lids and they look the business.

I went for the 3-piece inner luggage set too; 1 large and 2 smaller bags. They makes life easier on ferries and similar when you don’t need to bring all of your luggage in with you.

They also do a nifty false bottom panel for hiding important documents. The false bottom is really simple, it’s a small panel that sits at the bottom of the panniers. There is a small hole to remove it so you can see that it’s false but it will prevent most smash and grab incidents.

I’m very happy with my Stahlkoffers, I’d recommend them and I think they look great on the bike

I own an r1100 gs, for some time we had been looking for a more robust type of pannier than the factory plastic ones, looking at lots of different designes and concepts they all seemed very expensive for what basicly seemed like very thin riveted sheet alloy. Well that said when i saw what stahlkoffer made i was imediatly interested as they are very simple and whats more import (robust).
I have had mine for approx 4 years now with no problems what so ever even after a slow drop of the bike the pannier took the full weight of the bike and all it did was chip alittle of the silver coating which was repaired very easly, if i had of had anything less i would probably have been looking at a large dent in the tank.
When i went to pick my panniers up Bernie couldnt have been more helpful in as much as we fitted the frames and panniers there and then, i guess you could call it a ride in ride out service he gave me.
If you are wanting a very tough, good price pannier system thats not too flashy then these come highly recommended the wife and i have covered about 18 000 miles with these and havent had to do anything more than wd40 the locks.

I ordered a pair of panniers and was a little disappointed. There was almost an 8 litre discrepency between the volume of the panniers advertised on the website. My full face helmet didn't fit into the right hand pannier as advertised. The padlock system was finicky, rattled and rusted within 5 days. So I re-designed it. Worryingly my bike started to weave as the left hand pannier sticks out a lot. I was told I shouldn't drive over 70 mph but this would be unavoidable if overtaking and besides I live in France. I was promised a replacement left hand frame back in August but not enough frames have been sold yet to purge existing stocks. Interested if anybody else has experienced the weaving at around 80-90 mph.
