Every dualsport/adventure bike will be a compromise. But this is the best all around solution I've ridden. It may not scamper up a tight trail as quickly as a 250cc 2-stroke and it may vibrate a bit more on the highway that a big boxer. But it will take you anywhere. A lot lighter and and more off-road capable than any other adventure alternative, this bike carries its 25l fuel capacity well. I've nursed over 300 miles out of the tank in a pinch. The suspension is superb and the ground clearance excellent. Shorter riders may not be completely comfortable with its height. But the only thing I wouldn't recommend it for is touring with a pillion.

After the first 100km on the black stuff I thought I had really made a stuff up.. The vibrations & the really crap seat made me want to turn around & get my dosh back off the git that sold it to me..

Then we hit the dirt... yeeehaaa !!! I took the mirrors off & settled down & pretended I was on my old XR600 with better suspension...

This bike is made to go off road & cover as many miles as your body will allow. I think there is probably none better & I'm still confused why KTM stopped making them.

I live in OZ where the distances are massive, the tank range is really impressive, I get about 430kms/ not sure in miles(is the UK that wide)but it's not perfect yet but it soon is when you put your hand in your pocket & buy a few farkles..

1. Steering Damper.. I have an Ralle Moto Damper & Triple clamp(OZ)
2. New Bl*%dy SEAT ! Bought a hand made Renazco out of Calif USA( Truly amazing)
3. Rock Hard Rallye Bash plate, It is a box/bash that covers the fuel tap***(OZ)
4. New springs both ends for the larger rider(USA)
5. High Guard Kit from KTM
6. New Rear luggage rack care of me !(OZ)

Anybody need any info or reccos on these parts PM me Some are Ozzy & some from the US.

This is a great Adventure bike in the true meaning... prob the best you will find.

Outstanding off road ability and decent enough on road, but it clearly thrives when the black stuff stops. The vibrations can be draining but I have spent 6-8 hours per day in the saddle on longish trips, and provided you are sensible about stops, it is fine. There's a good selection of luggage available and it is a genuine adventure bike - it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It has a huge tank and a decent range. If you want a proper off road bike, with good load carrying abilities, which is robust, easy to maintain (ie agriculturally simple) and can go anywhere, you need a KTM 640 Adventure.
