The Goldwing mentioned above has always been a dream bike. I'd also like a 1972 Honda CB750 K1 and a Honda Africa Twin of the original kind.
Honda C100 1968 (bought in 1971).
Honda CB125 SS Twin (bought new in 1972)
Honda CB250 K4 (bought in 1976)
Suzuki GSX750 (bought in 2005 - mid life crisis rebirth!)
Honda Pan European GL1100 (bought in 2006 - GSX 750 too mad)
Yamaha XT660Z Tenere (bought new 2008)
BMW R1200RT (bought secondhand 2010)
Suzuki VStrom DL1000 (bought new 2014)
Honda Goldwing GL1500 (bought 2016 in Spain on Belgian plates, now UK reg.)(Still got it)
Triumph Tiger 800 XCa (bought new nov. 2016 -)
most recently rode the Goldwing down to Spain from UK, on my own and camping. No planning and no hassle. met some good people and no bad ones. only four days but inspiring and enlightening. I was well out of my comfort zone and loved it!
Prior to that there have been numerous excellent rides with my brothers and friends in the UK mainly but also in France.
There was a period of 28 years when I had no bike and on reflection that was a mistake. When I got back to biking I realised what I had missed.
I've had a couple of week long trips round France and a lot of day rides. All enjoyable in there way given the constraints of time and family etc.
The solo trip from UK to where I live in Spain, about 1500 miles over four days, was the most enjoyment I've had in a while and has been the catalyst for a longer trip this year.
My younger brother and I are going to ride from the UK, down through France to Spain. We'll stop off for a few days riding round my area then make our way back to the UK.
We don't have a route planned but will include some of the routes recommended in ABR and other mags. We have three weeks to do it starting at the beginning of June. We are going to be camping. We will both have Tiger 800 XCa's and are busy making preparations currently.
