Insurance time Again- Best prices.... 9 months, 3 weeks ago #154729

Well its that time again, bike still here, so insurance time.
Best price £219 worst £610..... any offerings of the best deals out there.

Funny how my current insurer can not quote over the t'internet (already had renewal letter)
Lowest price was Swinton, but with a £750 excess....

and dont bother getting all your parts data tagged. supposed to be a god send for reducing bike thefts and yes makes NO difference to your premium!

IF you are still with Bennetts and do not declare your mods they will refuse to pay out in the event of a claim. As to discussing with them the semantic difference between a mod and an accessory....don't go there!

I gave up and went with Carole Nash...top service!

this country is in desperate need of some control and regulation over insurance companies. my mate passed his bike test about 11 years ago. he accidentally told them the wrong month of that year and they said, yep its an extra £18 now. Theyve got to make this illegal.

Insurance has gone up somewhere in the region of 40% I believe

Carol Nash system would not give me a quote, asked me to contact them by phone.
My accessories only include Bennetts sticker that they supplied LOL....

I Have been advised as follows in the past and i think its wise advice.....Don't buy on price alone. Get the cover, policy terms, excess, etc etc that you want then look at reputation of the broker and insurance company, finally think about the price. It's an important financial product you are buying, not just a legal nicety and it needs to be right for you and something that when you really need the service that insurance really provides you don't want hassle.

Carole Nash nearly always comes out tops for me.

I would avoid Swinton, I had nothing but problems with them when I used them to insure the van. Not had any problems with Carol Nash so far and they are supposed to be good with mods, not really caring unless it makes an effect on performance.

My Swinton renewal for the s10 was £341. On the meerkat site my best was £191. Swinton came in at £221. Only one question.... How? Pure rip off insurance and it needs tighter legislation and control.

R2M, have been insured with IAM for many years, good service, luckily not had to test claims department (touch wood). In May renewal for 2008 GSA, with full PNCD, £250 xs was £102.96. Just do all the compare the meerkat enquiries and ring IAM with best price and they usually come up with the goods. Have had car and house insurance with them, its usually Royal Sun Alliance so named brand.
Take care

We had major issues with e car when the O/H smashed up her thundercat. I informed them she smashed it up whilst she was in hospital.
18 months later they are ringing her number to speak to me about her smash.
The worrying thing is they are happy to pass all the details to me who had nowt to do witht the accident except recover her bike.

After weeks of letters an phone calls with them. I`m positive they dont know there arse from the elbow.

Sorry rant over

Lancaster have been excellent with the Discovery
Bennetts and CN excellent with the bike.

Thanks guys. doing some more browsing today, Bennetts want over £500 which as a year 3 customer, is daft. It keeps going up though the value of the bike is going down. Its a shame that MAG don't start some 'get it right' work on the insurance companies.
Thought

Bike worth 8000
Insurance 500
Excess 300
volunteer Excess 200
.............................
Insur, payback needed
to cover total loss 9000
..............................
Chance of getting
all that back. NIL

Result is that if you get a right off, & you still owe masses of money to the finance house, you lose, despite being insured. QED third party insurance is what you are paying for, theft and own fault claims mean you are going to lose. Its a lose lose situation
The goverment actually back this daylight robbery and then include an extra insurance tax on us to add to the road tax, fuel tax, VAT on the safety gear we need to survive the rest of the car and truck drivers and bad roads, untrained cyclists, over keen speed police, and **Sunday drivers. ( **don't even start me off).
And they wonder why injury claims have risen.
I lost a perfectly good car to a careless driver who side swiped me, insurance wrote it off, I got £1200 less than I owed on it, 2 weeks off work, claimed injury which just paid off the car. Result.... no piggin car, a bad neck and arm for 6 mths and it was a non fault accident that I am sure adds %'s to my enquiries for insurance.

RANT OVER, will I still ride................Oh yars !

Just had a qoute from Bennetts at £71 not a lot of cover though, MCE at £117 both fully comp MCE was far better cover my own insurer qouted £170 up from £140 last year, I usually go on "gocompare" then phone around to get the best deal. I prefer to pay a little more and get better cover. cheers Spud
