In the United States, many states allow a driver to turn right on a red light if there is no traffic approaching from the left.

Don't you think a change in the law is need over here, how long have you waited at red light, when you could have turned safely ?

i think there are many traffic management/law issues that need to be addressed first before that is

Seems a good rule, but........

Another reason for a motorist to claim "I never seen him"

Car drivers would get used to just giving a quick glance then pull out, at least a red light gives us some protection.

I'd often thought the same but to be honest we cant be trusted with it in this country. How many times have you sat at a filter controlled by a separate light sequence, your filter lane goes green so off you go only for the car next to you sat at a red light still to merrily pull off too? You can actually make people pull away from red lights if you are sat next to them by moving no more than two feet quickly, they then assume its safe to go even tho they obviously have not checked for themselves as the bloody light is still red.
The secret of a long life is knowing when its time to go.

The opposite also happens, the filter lane turns green but the person at the front waits for the car next to them to move 1st

You could give people the right to turn left on a red light, but I don't think many would have the confidence to make the manover.

By Sainsburys at Selly Oak, Birmingham. This happens nearly every sequence. british car drivers cannot be trusted on this one!

Perhaps a better (safer?) version was what I saw a couple of times in Ireland last month, you were allowed to turn left on traffic lights indicated by a flashing amber arrow when the main lights were still red. It took me a while to work it out, the first time I came across it though .

all continent if full of green arrows by the red light, allowing to turn to the directed direction, if there is no traffic.

BUT, firstly, get rid of ridiculous H&S regulations on motorway roadworks!!!!!!!!
yesterday spent 50 minutes crawling 10-15 mph to standstill in a single lane, on a four lane M1 near Luton in the middle of the night.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO SHUT 20 MILES OF MOTORWAY FOR THREE VANS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD??????????!!!!!!!
