TOPIC: Speed awareness rip off

Speed awareness rip off 11 months, 4 weeks ago #138523

You can hark on as much as you lie about spwwed, safety and the conning baskets that run the system

38 in a 30 zone. I had to go back to the road/area just to see exactly where this incredibly unsafe driving took place........ 3 lanes wide, no bends, no schools,no houses, no junctions, no OAPs and funny enough no cameras. What there was though was a 40 limit changing down to a 30.
Well done mr Policeman, you will get a medal for all your hard work preventing crime, stopping old ladies getting beat up, robbed and raped.and of course making the roads a safer place for hardly anyone who was around at 6am.

Not bad enough I get a 'were you there, driving on that day' but the resulting smack in the wallet of a 'speed awareness course'is MORE expensive that the fixed penalty and 3 points.
On top of all that, I have to pay upfront £79, (£10 per extra MPH) AND the final straw, they expect me to go out and buy the latest copy of the highway code.
OFF they can most certainly Cuck.
48 years of riding and driving without incident, speeding ticket or at fault accident, and some spotty grunt with a degree in going to school decided that the speed limit on an open road should be set at all, then fines me for going at a fast walk about it.

Gripe over..... thanks for watching, next week...... find a job nearer to home, so these kinds of things don't leave me spitting and cussing

How was your weekend?????

Not bad actually although apparently a new kitchen is more important than another bike/project

I wish they had offered me one of those instead of a £500 fine and 5 points.

You would get less shod with false plates!

Driving along the M6 yesterday through a long section of "variable speed limit" set at 50mph, and was surprised how much traffic goes past the cameras at 70+.
It has to be false number plates, thinking of getting some myself as it's not a level playing field anymore.

Next time write back and tell them you genuinely can't remember if you were driving or not...after 8 pints it's difficult to remember anything (Well being drunk seems to be a valid excuse for crimes against the person, theft etc).

I'm more peeved that I'll have to miss MotoGp practice at Silverstone.

Its a conn if you take a ticket goverment gets all but 10% of the fine.Speed awareness all cost recovered are kept by the force. Freedom of information act. Just ask your local force. 20.speeders a day x 30 days = 600 per month x 80 quid nice little profit to ofset goverment cut backs. Honest people just get fleeced. No I ve not been on one.

if you dont want to do the course or pay the extra then takle the fixed penalty points and fine simples..

Re: Speed awareness rip off 11 months, 4 weeks ago #138609

I understand that you are a tad angry, but how was that cop supposed to know you had all that experience ? and if you went past there faster than the speed limit would you consider that it was safe to proceed at that speed ?... The guy following you may have little or no experienced speed limit right or wrong is there, you did break it, so that’s it end off.

I am no angel but if i get caught then so be it , it's not the cops fault i was exceeding the limit, take it on the chin , and to use the old “stopping old ladies getting beat up, robbed and raped” i am sure he did not ignore that crime to get you !!

Sometimes we think that it's just a revenue collection service, but if it saves one kids life or a granny getting all excited about collecting her pension then it has to be justified don't you think ?

36 in a 30. I was offered the speed awareness course instead of the three points. Cost me £10 more to do the course so opted for that. It's a joke really but a lot less hassle than informing the insurance company you got caught speeding. Didn't have to buy a high way code book either so unless they tell you I wouldn't bother.

I learnt absolutely nothing on the course but I couldn't believe that some of the people on the course had driving licences.

I don't know exactly how true this is, but I read that the speed awareness course is run by a LTD company and the directors of that company are ...............

ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers)

It wouldn't surprise me if it were 100% true.

You've got off light. Three/four years ago I was doing 36 in a 30. A friend of mine who was in the force at the time looked at the notice and said if it had been the Police they would not have taken action but as it was the local speed freaks from the council they did. I was offered the fixed penalty + points, a SAC or contest it in court. I got them to send me the evidence and then decided to take the SAC.
Here is Suffolk it was £120 and a whole day with an observed drive. They were looking at knocking the observed drive on the head to reduce costs, don't know if they have. At least I did not then have the 3 points on the licence and have to inform all the insurance companies.
Last month I was waiting to disembark from the Harwich-Hook ferry and spotted a guy in bike gear who looked familiar. Waiting for the lift he stood by me so I asked whether he had been on a SAC - turns out it was the same guy who had been in my group - he was the only biker and went out for a nice spin with the observer on a R1.
On my SAC most of the people were over 45. Looks like we tended to just push the limit a little too much. The lack of youngsters suggests either they are all totally lawabiding or they have gone so f+++ing fast they they do not get offered the SAC. Wonder which one it is?

On the day of your motorbike test would you have gone past that big red circle with a 30 in the middle at 38?
No, of course you wouldn't. So what makes it ok now.
When the silly old woman pulls out from the side road in front of you whilst going at 38, d'ya think you might wish you' d have been doing 30? Of course you do.
When your kid is lying dead in the road having been hit by something going 38, d'ya think, if he was going 30, my kid would be alive now? Of course you would.
And traffic cops are employed solely to enforce traffic law. Not to stop old women from being mugged and to stop women being raped!
If you see 30 then do 30. It's only generally in villages and schools etc. it's not the end f the world!

Oh, and I got done last year, 36 in a 30 towing a caravan!!!!
I had to endure the patronising speed awareness course but had no complaint. It's basics really, see the sign, do the speed. If you can't follow these basic rules then don't whine when you get caught!
