TOPIC: Have the cameras killed the Cat and Fiddle?

Re: Have the cameras killed the Cat and Fiddle? 1 year ago #133893

The Germans have an idea on how to reduce speeding:

I was flashed at and signaled to slow down a few times when out on Sunday. Thing is I was doing 50 to 60 mph, but there is an assumption bikers go at excessive speeds. But the reason for that is so many do and spoil it for the rest of us. I agree with the previous posts that it was bikers being idiots that caused the cameras in the first place.

In reality the speed cameras will get you on the straight bits but they are the boring bits. From Macclesfield up to the Cat'n'Fiddle the bends and hairpins are so close that you would be hard pushed to achieve 50 mph as an average speed with the exception being the last stretch from where they have installed another camera

The last bit on the way down from where the A537 becomes the A54 is equally as twisty so the same applies

They cameras have only killed it for those that like to go fast in a straight line

There have been too many accidents with bikers who don't really know how to ride or know their machine's capabilities, hence the Police and helicopter presence that has now transformed into the cameras.

Now that the road is empty of riders who should not really be there it's great !

It was always great in the rain and still is

Or the snow

Surly the 50 mph limit is to discourage bikers using certain roads in the first place. Another well used biker road between market Harborough and Melton Mowbry got the same 50 treatment. The mony would have been better spent on signe's at the many side roads warning of bikes on the main road. But then it would put the responsibility on the car drivers. So thats not gonna happen.

I spent the weekend around Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and hardly any bikes were out and about (apart from the 30 bikes with my group).

+1 on the twats at the cat-n-fiddle - they ride likes its motogp and complain when cameras fly up to stop them killing themselves (and others). With the cost of track days being quite low, I dont know why the bunts dont fill their boots on the track.

At least with the Grossglockner, if you ride like a twat you will soon find yourself falling to earth the long hard way

Cat N Fiddle is boring. Dont people know theres a great trail getting you towards the top, then another fantastic one to get you down to Buxton. Who needs to care about speed cameras with such good trails to go by
