Hi there,
Has anyone been to Bikers Home?
Is it only guided tours or can you turn up on your own bike stay a few nights and ride some trails around the area?
Would be good to hear a few views on the place before I contact Peter.
Cheers
Laura

We stayed their last year, Peter is very flexible. You can just turn up and stay however he does suggest giving him a day or two notice in case he's not there.
As far as trail riding goes: you can book a package with him, hire one of his ttr 600s or just run what you brung.
Peter is very helpful and always happy to see people, he is however dutch and so therefore blunt and striaght to the point (not trying to sterotype) I know this has caused some problems with some British guests before.

I`ve stayed twice last time, May this year waiting for a new clutch which he had ordered for his bike and let me buy it
The food great even the stork beer and a must roof top terrace but watch the floor it gets red hot, flip flops a must
From there you can see the sun go down over the mountains

We stayed a couple of nights in April this year. Definitely worth giving Peter a ring in advance, he's fairly limited on the number he can accommodate. Food was great, parking in the integral garage gave piece of mind. I would say that his prices are quite a bit more (around 30%) than most comparable place we stayed during our 4 weeks in Morocco. Still a great place to hang out though.
We didn't do any organised trips/rent bikes from him so can't comment on that aspect of his business.
Hope this helps
Steve

yep, great place to stay, squashed four Gs's into his garage for two nights back in 2007, Peter wasn't there but his wife provided perfect hospitality while we rested. Book up to avoid a lesser place to stay.

The link is interesting. Thought there are always two sides to stories like that.
I've read other, similar things before, but I've been a few times and get on fine with Peter. The food is really good, Zineb is a great cook and gives a great, friendly welcome. Prices for bike hire are expensive I think. I had an argument with him about it once (good natured). When he had the KTMs they were double the price of the yams from Loc2Rues in Marrakech, something like 150 euros as day which if you're there for two weeks you may as well take your own bike.
In summary, decent place, good food, but my advice is to be firm with Peter re exactly what it is you want and agree the price before you get there. Also, if you are on your own and you want your own room you need to be firm about that otherwise you may/will end up sharing.
Last thing - the gps coordinates on their website (for their place) are not correct. You need to ride on about a mile up the road (if coming from marrakech side) and eventually you see a big sign which points off the main road.

Ha! Now I've read the whole thread there is a post by "whisky" - a slovenian ex army guy who we met there in oct (he refers to the three of us in his post).
A number of those posts mention money in the context of being charged to fix stuff. I think that's taking the piss really. If you're over there with a potentially disabling problem and someone sorts it for you then to my mind it's well worth 30 euros (peanuts in that situation). It is a business after all, it's their livelihood, but if you don't want to pay the price don't use them. Simple really.
by the way, as minky alludes to, there are actually far far FAR nicer places to stay than BH in Ouarzazate, just that it is accessible and well known.

Jane (Lizzie) and I stayed there on our trip, turned up on spec and luckily there was space, he is not expensive by European standards 30 Euros each per night, bed breakfast and evening meal, top food and good company. It's all very clean, tidy and stress free, a little oasis of calm we found, no haggling, no hidden extras, Certainly we intend to go back and would recommend him to anyone.
You need to remember that he runs a business, not a charity, he's not there on holiday and he needs to make a living, and thats not living on 10 Dirums (is that spelt right ?) a day and no doubt as a outsider he will have to pay more than locals to make things happen.
I would also say and not to his detriment he is old school in terms of his views and attitude, he's not going to molly coddle, so heat and kitchen spring to mind , when it comes to riding bikes in the desert. He is direct in the way that he speaks but that is probably as much a cultural thing.
He gave us some great advice and tips on routes to take etc And didn't take the piss to much on our over loaded bikes.
It's great that he is there and does what he does.

Never enough time and so much to see and experience.
Previously a VStrom 650, and a KTM SMR 950, currently XT600E with many mods. And now a F800GS Trophy since the KTM has gone.

He is very expensive for Morocco, people enjoy paying silly prices just to say 'I stayed there'
Ask Tim Cullis how BH is compared to other Maroc prices, but then again I would expect him to say 'no comment'.
When in Maroc pay Maroc prices, they are Africa NOT Europe.
I think it's interesting how people know with certainty the motivation or reasons for other folk doing certain things .
There are also at least one other 'Moroc' hostel, run by Morocans who charge the same rate and are recommended by Tim. But they are well educated folk who no doubt will not be prepared to work for minimum wages.
I wonder what other Europeans or ABR's would charge if they lived there, running the same business and how much money they would expect to live on.
