When I was going from Monaco to Mt Ventoux 2 years ago, following the Tour de France cycling, I got caught on the route and couldn't cross to the roads I wanted, by the time the race had passed I had lost 4 hours so had to make progress. Headed towards where I thought I wanted to be, came to a tjunction with no idea where to go and a biker flew past. I followed him, and tagged along at lightening speed along the most amazing road I'd ever been on. Great surface, turns, views etc. After nearly an hour of flat out racing with this other guy, I stopped to breathe and check where I'd ended up.....just ridden the RdlNapoleon.
Not a single pic but etched into my mind will be the memories of that road!
A real real must do road!

Can anyone assist with the correct method for downloading the route posted by Louis above?

I've installed mapsource on my PC and V7 Navigator - If I click on the attachment I get a sheet of code - should I be right-clicking and 'save link as'..

What would then be the next step? Please bear in mind I'm fairly new to PC's (obviously ) so phrases such as 'open in Mapsource' don't make sense..How do I get the route above to my Garmin in easy steps

Cheers in advance

I have not got mapsource (I have basecamp), but I am sure that its roughly the same.

Right click on Louis's File and select save as.. save to your computer somewhere (remember where you saved it)

Plug your GPS into the computer ,
Open your mapsource program , and select *File* / *import*
Find the file you saved , and select it.

This should now open in Mapsource ..

When it has opened in map source , and the rute is correct .

Plug your GPS into the computer , wait until Mapsource finds it .

Then click *send to* this should send the route to your GPS ..

As I have said , I have not got mapsource ,, but sure these are the steps you need to take.

Report if it works , if not someone that has Mapsource can nodoubt help you.

Ok, had a go

Created a folder titled gpx files, saved the route as route napoleon.gpx (using Firefox)

Opened mapsource and searched for the folder - couldn't find it. Was given the option of searching for all file types except gpx( .mps, .rte, .trk, .grm)

I'm assuming it can't see the file because it's not looking for a gpx file? What am I doing wrong :/

hi Gooner..

bare with me..
I just right clicked the file on this thread and right click save file and its saved to "my documents" fine..its a gpx file for sure thats without chosing any special made folder I have ..

Then i open my Garmin base camp and chose import ..then the napolean file is shown so click that..then open..then its loaded in to basecamp..then you have to click on the said route for it to open..its works for me..

In mapsource it should work just fine too..have you had any success opening other gpx files in mapsource?

I only use Mapsource, I 'saved as' in My Garmin folder.

Went to the file, right click, then open with Mapsource, it worked a treat.

Ok, thanks for all the help and advice. I wondered if my version of map source was so dated it didn't recognise .gpx so downloaded Garmin basecamp

..and it worked first time

Thanks everyone
