Hi, I am intrigued by this and never done it, but like the idea. Is it just camping or is there an enduro as well?

Re: dragon rally 51st 1 year, 8 months ago #67983

I have to say I'm tempted too. Keep us posted John.

one of the longest running rallies in england .
its a one night er but theres plenty of camp sites open around the area ie North Wales.
my first dragon was 39yrs ago and now we have gone the last two years.
i think there was 800 last year, a fair few come from the continent.
its one you have to do at least once, but you can get the dragon bug!!!
a great weekend and somthing to do in Febuary.
P.S. you need good gear for this one!!

Camping, drinking, getting wet and freezing your nuts off are the main themes of the Dragon. There's no enduro track but the camp site field this year done a great impression of a Congo mudbath in monsoon season. It's a great rally, the North Wales winter weather just adds to the fun.

Cough... err... longest in England... in North Wales?

I'll have a think about this one. It'll be around a month before I set off to the Americas, so a good time to give the bike and gear a final check. And it should also help prepare me for the onset of an Antartic winter! And I've never been. And it is in Wales. And it is the Dragon Rally (my bike is named after a dragon).

hmmmmm

We'll be back on the C90's at the 51st.
THe weather was too nice this year, although I have to say it was a 10 hour epic in the p1ssing rain all the way home....we got soaked.

Got some Klim stuff now

I've got friends who have gone every year - they hire a large overnight accommodation and make a weekend out of it before heading off to camp in the mud. Perhaps I should join them next time as I've camped in the snow before now.

Dragon rally
The 23 November 1961 issue of The Motor Cycle carried an article by George Wilson in which he asked, "Can such a dream be realised in this country - a rally for super enthusiasts only, and so organised that by its very nature, only super enthusiasts would want to join in?... But above all it must be held in the dead of winter when only men who are men would be interested and the softies would stay away"
