TOPIC: Rustproofing

Rustproofing 11 months, 2 weeks ago #140827

Does anyone have any tips/hints on how to minimise rusting/corrosion?
I've read that Mr. Sheen on spokes & rims helps. Anyone tried it? If it works on them would it work on nuts & bolts?
Are there any products on the market worth trying?

+1 for ACF 50. Used it on my dormant Bandit and its not rusted any more despite not being moved since March last year.

FST 365 works well too just spray the bike with the stuff after you wash it.

It's a lot cheaper than ACF50 but you do need to reapply after each wash which I don't think you do with ACF50.

I have always used FST 365 on my bikes and I ride all year, no rust yet.

Acf50 works well but hodeously expensive.....
I use waxoil mixed with wd40 to thin it a bit. Looks a mess, works a treat

I think ACF 50 is fair value for money. From one £14.99 can, I did two bikes a Tiger 995i and Tiger 800xc.

I use it through an old paint spray gun. Brilliant stuff.

Adventure motorcycling is a challenge for those who go but only a dream for those who stay behind.

Thanks all - a fairly resounding thumbs up for ACF so have ordered some. I'll keep the Mr Sheen. It's been in the cupboard for years anyway.

Mr Sheen's good for polishing visors so that light rain just slides off!
I like ACF50 too, but it does need reapplying after using some of the more aggressive bike cleaning spray-on fluids.

I only use bike cleaning fluid in the summer, in the winter I use a mild car wash and keep the bike topped up with ACF50. It`s not dear a tin last`s me a year at least and it`s great for putting a shine on plastics and black engines.
