TOPIC: Replacement brake discs. KLV 1000

Replacement brake discs. KLV 1000 11 months, 4 weeks ago #138805

Hi.. This is probably one for DUBBER or anyone else with a V strom 1000. I need to replace the front brake disc's on my 2004 KLV 1000. my local dealer wants nearly £200 each for them. Anyone know if there is a cheaper solution?
Would a second hand pair (apparently 'Like New') off a 2002 DL 1000 V Strom fit?..

Thanks in advance... Shaun

PS.. I did ask both my local Suzuki and Kawasaki dealers for their advice but once they knew I was looking at a second hand pair they both said they couldn't help...

Edit to the above: if not is there a way to re-place the rivets as it is only those that a worn.. Thanks again

I don't know about your bike but If you can't get aftermarket discs here, try looking overseas. You might find some cheaper in another country. Good luck with your search..

Although it's a good few years ago, when I had to do all three discs on my FJ1200 I fitted Stealth discs - made in Sheffield and at the time and one helluva lot cheaper than OEM or other well known pattern disc suppliers, googling it I found the url at www.stealthproducts.co.uk seems to suggest they still do discs. Give 'em a ring and see if they can help.

Just replaced mine for some really nice wave pattern jobs bought them through

www.s3performance.com.au/advanced_search...erbuhttruhc3rc26eg65

These work far better than standard and are made in China as is 99% of what goes on our bikes these days ..$139 aud each..

Shit you Poms get ripped off for bits worse than we do here..a lot of people here buy stuff from China direct now or from USA after they buy it from Asia and including postage it is still half the cost..

Stuff like this I get from China for about 25 $ Aud delivered.

Thanks for your help so far guys.

Mark & myth Mouse, Have been looking abroad but because the price is 99p above excise duty threshold, they've stacked a fair ammount of wonga on and then 20% import tax..Still works out a bit cheaper tho but I'm not to sure of the quality as they seem all to come from the China, Hong Kong market.

I have seen a set that are a fair price on the 'bay'. wavy look alikes (KAGIZUME), but they are I presume also from china. Whats the quality of steel like ? Also I read on some other Forums that wavey style discs are not all they are cut out to be, i.e the weight difference is minimal, no increase in stopping power or less brake fade and also the downside is because of the shape of the disc, they shredd your pads a lot quicker. So it seems that they only look better aesthetically (the jury out on that one with me though).

Has anyone got any more experience of the above style?

I'm on a budget at the moment and thinking of getting rid of the bike as soon as its MOT'd anyway, but didn't want to pass any crap on.

So basically I got a toss-up,I either:-
1. Get a cheapish pair of part worn ones that I havent really seen and just hope they are fine and will fit my bike.
OR
2. get a new pair of chinese, wavy look alikes, for about £60 more.. (probably go for this option.)

Thanks SLIMBO, will probably txt u a bit later to see whats on offer.

Also thanks Fried egg and Desert raider.. Much helpful all of you..

Regards Shaun

I do tend to waffle a bit, so I do apologize to all..

Mate ..hate to break it to you but 80% + of the OEM..Japanese ,American ,Italian,German car and motorcycle parts are made in China ,India,Korea or in Yamaha's case Brazil these days and have been for the last 20-30 yrs..

Look up "Canton Fair" in Guang Zhou China on your search engine..this is where Motorcycle assemblers( I dont call them manufacturers anymore) get the bits from to assemble bikes...

Japanese brands have been outsourcing manufacture of components for 3 decades..

I have wavy styles on my bike now ..100% ok better braking and feel for sure ...don't believe the hype bike shops spread..to justify their existance..99% of what they sell is from China these days ..

How do I know ..I go there every 2 yrs travel around ..and bring home a suitcase full of bits I need each time..
Your import rules must be different in UK ...but your Govt rips you off far worse than ours ..any import under $1000 aud at a time through the mail is not taxed here ..

Aussie Riders are slowly waking up and buying stuff from USA which has come from China etc..anyway. still half the price we are charged here in shops..

Come in a nice package like this Dyson ?

Australian flag neatly printed on the packet ..straight from Guang Zhou !

Marketing is almost as honest a trade as 'Real Estate' I am afraid mate !

Nope mine came in a poly bag, I've spoken to the owner a few times and he's a friend of a friend. The KTM 950 ones are certainly made in-house.
