TOPIC: Tierra del Fuego to Alaska - 2012

Tierra del Fuego to Alaska - 2012 1 year, 9 months ago #58649

As the countdown continues, I've set up a little blog to share with you all thoughts and experiences in the run up, execution, and recovery from my TDF-Alaska run next year.

First post is now up and live, so feel free to have a nose and 'follow' if you are so inclined.

Also if any of you have done this - and wish to share some 'must do's' or for that matter 'must don'ts' feel free to post here or on the blog itself. I'd welcome your input.

Here's the link: www.patonabike.blogspot.com

Cheers

Pat

Best of luck. Looking forward to the tales and pictures already.
Never enough time and so much to see and experience.

Previously a VStrom 650, and a KTM SMR 950, currently XT600E with many mods. And now a F800GS Trophy since the KTM has gone.

Good luck sounds like a ride of a lifetime - just a bit of advice from my perspective, get the blog links updated ASAP even if its with basic information. The old adage "dont go live till its ready".

I'm off to TDF in March ish next year. Picking up the bike in Santiago running up to Atacama before head south. When are hoping to be there?

My plan is to land in BA, and head straight south, so that should see me in TDF around second week of April - then head north. Keep in touch, sounds like we may cross paths along the way!

Thanks for the good wishes - and I know what you're saying - but this is part of my self motivation technique.

I'll explain. I have a bit of a lazy streak about some things - with tendency to see and not photo, or think but not write. Or if I do all that, to not get around to editing etc (eg. I still have loads of photos, vids and notes to edit re my 14 countries in 11 days trip last year... I will get around to it, honest, I will). But I've found that by trailing what's coming up, I'm better at actually doing it. And I really do want to try and record this one properly. Well that's the thinking anyway. Hopefully as the blog gets fleshed out it will become more interesting and informative (though I can't promise that, as it is all about me! ).

Cheers

I had thought about coming back along the Argentine coast via Trelew and Pueto Madryn (which is where they filmed the Killer whales attacking seals on the beach in that fab Attenborough Blue Plant series) but several people told me it is a bit of a boring route. You might want to go inland and pick up Ruta 40 but you might end up heading north on the same route.

That's pretty much current thinking. South along the Atlantic Ruta 3 - then north up Ruta 40. Not confirmed yet, but I may have to make stop in Trelew for work (and then in Trevelin on Ruta 40 on the way back up).
