TOPIC: A few lanes in Essex

Re: A few lanes in Essex 1 year, 10 months ago #55097

Ok so the idea is to tick of all the lanes in my area with pics! That way i will know for sure which are open and which are not and it can be a nice database for other guys in the area. Maybe you fancy a few lanes as a beginner and dont want to get a nasty mud suprice half way down the lane
like i did today

First one is of the A127,Dunton Wayletts turn off on to the Dunton Rd direction Billericay.

Byway 56

easy start(apart from the hedge cutting boys which where working there today

of course it was slippery as we had a lot of rain yesterday. Going was good for the first 1/2 mile
Then things became a bit more interesting

I think i need a new rear tyre soon

next one was just up the road from the end of that one. End of the lane turn right, next left and it brings you straight to the start of this one

Forgot to take a pic of the Byway sign agin easy start,if a bit slippery, then gets a bit more tricky but nothing like the previous one.Might be a good place for people which are not so sure about mud.Easy recovery possible as houses are near by and cars should be ok to go down this lane.

You did well with those tryes, I know that lane, the rutts are bad & there is 1 really deep one on left side if your going uphill, riding the middle between the rutts is hard too.
I got my TTR back on road now but needs running in for 250 miles, if your out local during the week let me know, I'll meet up with you for a couple of lanes.
Anything involving distance then I'll bring the 800 (I still have some TKC's on it)

Yep i ended up in the deep one uphill. Was stuck there for a while but with lots of swearing in lots of different languages( i find essential for off roading)i managed to drag her backwards down the hill and choose the other rut. Of course going up that side without my gloves on i noticed the brumbles a bit late My hand looks like i played with a tiger but there was no way i was going to stop once i had her going again

Peppers green, its on the A1060 between Leadon Roding & Roxwell, if you follow the lane it brings you out at Shellow Bowells, from there its a couple of miles to the infamous Millers Green ford.
Let me know when your next out.

Is that one passable at the Southern end as it appears on the OS Map as switching to a "white road" with no rights of way status?

CLICK FOR MAP

Is there a byway sign at the road?

It's on my "to do" list but was a bit wary of it because of this.

There is a byway sign at A1060 end, it seems to run legally to Shellow as there are signs halfway down the track, there is also a little dirt track halfway down that appears to have been used as a scrambling/moto x track. On my OS map it seems to stop short at windmill farm so it maybe one way
