Thought it would be a great idea to compile a list of our favourite routes.

Mine would be the B4391 Penybontfawr to Pale/Bala

What's yours? Share here...

I agree, great road up over the Milter cerrig. Know it well. I have many routes that I like and couldn't pick out a favourite either in UK or abroad. The favourite is always the one I'm enjoying at the time.

well to be honest i dont know the road number(NA1370 found it on google maps) only that we started in Oleron-stainte-marie Just south of Pau and ended up on the (N240/N230/N260 all we awesome)the road is narrow winding and steep it takes you over the top and past a ski resort the decent is a rollercoaster on steroids i had to stop at one of the waterfalls as I was getting carried away we were not supposed to end up in spain by hey ho we somehow took a wrong turn and ended up on a donkey track for about 30+miles gravel city we were glad to eventually find a main road at the end of it especialy as it was 40 degree heat

Depending on tastes there are three good routes out of Oloron.

Most do the E7 to Jaca

My favourite is the D919 which starts near the Lindt factory outlet to Lanne-en-Barétous then the D918 to Tardets-Sorholus then along the D26 which follows the river all the way past where the road starts to climb and the hairpins begin at Larrau then onwards to Pampalona on the Spanish side.

Larrau is also a good place to pick up part of the Route du Fromage Ossau-Iraty which is a perfect strip of tarmac that runs across the hill tops on the French side of the Pyreness all the way to the Atlantic coast.

Okay I gave in and climbed off my high horse , but this road is so obscure even a lot of the locals can't find it

I used to travel up to Fort William every May for the Scottish trial, allways in a car with bikes on trailer.
First time I went through Glen Coe I thought how good it would be on a bike.
Promised myself one year I'd be on a bike.
Did it last year. Great.
