Its beyond me why Triumph are this way with their customers warranty. Do they not realise how much their crap after sales service gets slagged off these days. No other bike manufacturer gets such a consistantly bad rep for bad after sales.
Even if Triumph brought out the best dual sport bike in the world, i wouldn't buy one due to my personal experience with Triumph and their continuing bad rep on customer service.

Exactly, my nearest dealer is a Triumph specialist, I fancy the engine in the 800XC and I like the looks.

But the apparent Triumph reluctance to put right issues and the often mentioned 'get out clauses' (did you wash it after each ride) means I won't spend my hard earned on one and will probably stick with Yamaha

Something to be said for having an older bike (mine's 31 years old). No dealer service issues - do it myself. Doesn't have to be cleaned after every ride or polished if I don't want to, which I mostly don't.
Have I had any issues - yes. 1st the ignition source coils went AWOL so rather than replace the stator (engine out job) fitted an Ignitech unit which also tends to give better ignition. Then I had the mechanical water pump seal break up. This was an engine out job but the part was only £10. Labour was mine. Been running for 2 years now with no further problems (touching a 4x2) and 5000 miles.
It's not the prettiest of bikes but it does get me out on 2 wheels and every trip is an adventure.

The Triumph Tiger 800XC is a seriously good bike, the adjustable seat height, high capacity generator for accessories, the suspension, the handling, the excellent build quality, that and it's a damned fine looking bike! I still haven't mentioned the triple motor, it's so sweet, so refined and smooth! The gearbox? OMG, it's so slick.
That is my true thoughts on the Tiger, I love the bike, it's just what I want, I even believe it is the perfect replacement for my Africa Twin and that's saying something.
And that is why I am so pissed off with the niggles that are costing me so much with the Tiger. Yes, agreed, buying outwith their dealer network due to logistics has been part of my issue but the ECU problems (caused by the gear indicator) has rocked my confidence in the bike and feel I don't trust it to cross Europe this summer. Triumph have only contacted me once, in reply to my compliant basically telling me as I bought outside their dealers it's tough.
The bike has been away for three weeks now and the Mighty Varadero is proving Honda won't let me down and probably the way forward.
Triumph themselves could take control of these issues, contact individuals and ensure they are happy with their product. Sales would only increase if customer loyalty was rewarded rather than shunned.
This is my second Triumph but unfortunately my last. A pity, coz I love the bike. Shame.

P.S.

Davsato, you'll be the first to know if I change my Varadero pipes mate! (Might be soon enough if I decide on the Crosstourer!)
Honda, the power of dreams.

Well just recieved my wheel back from Hagon wheel specialists. It's made a slight change but it is still doing it. I'm going to France next week and after that I will start the process of looking for another bike...

My confidence and karma with Triumph is once again retored........thank you for reconsidering Triumph

Result at last!!!
OK it shouldn't have taken so long but alls well that ends well??
I rec a customer survey from Triumph & I put that although I had no problems I was peturbed to read on bike forums that Triumph appear reluctant to stand by their warranty & that although I had been happy with the 6 Triumphs I have owned if warranty problems persist then it would affect my view of Triumph & future purchases.
Red Rose Classic Motorcycle Club Pre65 & twinshock trials in the NE Lancs area.

This is pretty much what I put in the three letters I posted addressed to Mr J Bloor, Customer servives and Warranty dept.......I'd like to think that it was the letter that landed on mr Bloors desk that made the difference but we'll never know

Re: Triumph Warranty Woes 1 year ago #144499

I'm am so happy that you have recieved a good result! More than I can say for myself. I have been talked out of selling the XC (for now at least) by my mum! I have been trying to sort the problem since I came back from France. When I walked in the dealer the service manager and the mechanics were stumped as to what to try next. Even spoke to Hagon who repaired my wheel, they said the wheel wasn't bad and most likely wouldn't of caused the problem that I'm having because if the wheel was buckled it would happen all the time and not just at certain speeds.

And as you would expect the manufacturer is helping me every step of the way, triumph are fantastic.... Oh no wait, they couldn't give a damn!

What next? Ride to hinckley and park in front of there gates and refuse to move till I can speak to mr John bloor?

I've been led to believe there is a Byway that runs next to the gates to his house just to really grab his attention ................. and maybe the local Police too .

Assuming Triumph and the dealer wont help, I'd start at the back and work forwards (the problem you feel through the bars sometimes comes from elsewhere)

Look with your hands and ears as well as your eyes. What feels or sounds abnormal.

Get the back wheel in the air and turn it. Check for deviation (axial and vertical)

Rear wheel fitment (are all the spacers in the right place?) bearing and tyre condition and balance. Take it out, take the tyre off, examine it (inside too) and the rim, get it refitted and dynamically balanced and reassemble. Torque everything up to the specified figure.

No tight spot in chain.

Rear wheel and swing-arm alignment

Swing arm pivot alignment and condition

Steering head bearing

Front wheel correctly installed with the bolts and spindles tightened to the correct torque and in the right order. Front suspension not binding. No excessive play

Front tyre condition, installation and balance. Wheel bearing.

I have written a letter to them. The reply that I got was that there isn't any problems with the tiger 800XC. Even when my dealer has contacted them they have said the same thing! Useless.

Richard Simpson - thanks for the ideas but it aphids all been tried and nothing works!
