Just bought a new (to me) bike Tenere. Could do with a bit of guidance too 2 years, 8 months ago #120180

After much deliberation (F800GS / XT660Z) I picked up a low milege 1 owner Tenere today

I'm fortunate that it comes with a couple of farkles (taller Puig Screen, touratech handguards and luggage rack & centre stand) however I have some additionals I would consider....

I had a quick look around on the XT660.com website, but didn't find it too easy to get fast answers to questions I had.

Therefore could any of you Tenere guys help me with the following.

1) I would like to lose some weight (off the bike ) and replace the standard heavyweight catalytic exhaust system with a single pipe. I'm considering the MTC which at £145 seems good value? Does any one know if these are any good or should I be looking at something else?

2) I've picked up some info about doing a couple of mods to airfilter and snorkle + adding a power commander modification to trick the ECU into providing a richer mixture to smooth out power delivery. Is this worthwhile?

3) It comes with decent Tourances fitted, which seem great for the road, however how would it fair on these for BBBR type rough stuff?

4) I'm told that Hyperpro after market springs are worth fitting. Any views?

5) Standard pegs seem quite narrow, any reasonable cost replacement suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any guidance

these footpegs are good .. i got mine from ebay uk

www.areyourshop.com/index.php?main_page=...f2dcfb100629ff2139e8

rear spring ..if you are a bigish boy with luggage and stuff 90nm is the one to go for the ride height will increase so if your not that tall you will notice for sure

you can cut the cat out to make here breath better not difficult if you can weld a bit

best with one cog less for off road on the front from wemoto
fuel mod is ok ..may get the engine light on now and again

your tyres sre useless in anything but very dry conditions and could cause you some reail pain if its wet on the trail
conti tks will give you a fighting chance when its wetter without being to extream on the road

lovely bike just need to add som bits and some mud ..congrats

footpegs

Hi Gavin
Good choice you got there
To answer some of ya questions ..
Ok to chop off about 5kg off the bike yes the MTC which at £145 is good value you can get a discount when metioned you saw a advert off the xt660 site .

Tourance's I had mine for 5000 mils ... but the TKC's are good combo knobbly to start off with if u are going to have some dirty fun greenlaning and road ridding.
As for the snorkle I not changed mine .. its still standard .

You can get nice wider pegs - Pivot ones off adventure spec. as they have a section on the thier site just for the Tenere 660
hope that helps bud

Sweet bike matey. Enjoy! Mine came with all the trick bits, so not had much to do to it. New K&N filter 2 weeks ago....makes no difference other than its new and clean! I changed the Tourances to new TKC'S... and sooo glad that i did.

Hi got an MTC pipe on mine, just got the single side set up on, what a huge difference in weight. Seems to be running fine on it,mines an old round pipe i had left over from the twin set up i had on my xt660r with their new link pipe. They do a really nice looking oval pipe that you can use as a single or twin set, its pretty good for the money. One thing i would say and i'm sure its the same with many of the aftermarket pipes is they can be a bit loud, i had an extra diffuser disc for mine and it sounds good without being offensively noisy. Worth looking on their web site and giving them a call, they seemed very helpfull.
Chaos is the only camouflage that incompetence needs to operate at full capacity.

I dunno where that road goes, might as well go take a look anyway there's no where else i need to be right now.
