Having recently spent 4 days riding from Scotland to Andorra in persistant preciptation for the entire trip. I suffered from soggy bolleauxs syndrome on day 1 onwards. Looking for advise on a decent one piece suit, and a good waterproofing agent so I don't have to spend the rest of the summer sitting in a puddle.I would like to keep the outlay to under £ 100

Have a look at the AlpineStars one piece. Mine was about £85 but they seem to have jumped up to £110ish. Bit of a bugger to get on with big boots, but it is waterproof. Having said that, I'm not really sure if any kit is fully waterproof if your on the bike all day this summer! I think the closest for me is the Klim stuff, but you pay for it.

I'm unashamed to say I bought a Crevit (Lidl own brand) one piece waterproof number ahead of the HISS.

I was forced to wear it due to heavy downpours coming over the Pyrenees and it didn't leak. Was delighted for the £14 outlay

cant go wrong with army goretex stuff its perfect for off roading .. plus 3

try and avoid e bay track down a local army surplus ... my jacket is the real deal lined huge inner pockets it was around 30 pounds 7 years ago just did the abr off road in the pissing rain bone dry ....just wish id took a pullover though fekin summer

same with the trusers you will not get a better deal to keep dry i was wearing bike jeans under the pants and they were dry after 6 hours of splashes and deep water .. if you get a tear theres a product called no more needles ..really which will patch your kit and make it good to go again

for your budget its really good and is better than the famncy stuff as long as you pad your knees and wear some armour undernieth
its great in rivers and stuff without sweating your nuts off in branded romper suit

Well firstly, I have had 2 Lidl Jackets the first one has lasted 5 years!
I got the 2nd as a just in case I have a pillion, now Im using it into 2nd year,
(I will get another one when they do there bike sale near autumn) the trousers are also lidl, but got too hot had to remove the lining

on our trip to Millau it rained from North Essex to Paris the only thing that let me down where my expensive gloves!!!!! I ended up putting surgical gloves inside to keep my hands dry, it of coursed peed all the way back too however on the return trip, I got a pair of marrigolds had pink hands did the trick, sometimes the old ones are the best lol

seroulsly though & have a all in one giant 'romper' suite thing i get from hein gereck ko for packing a way small as well.
I also had a left over waterproof overals from fishing, with quilted lined so may be going ot the local fishing shop might be cheaper?

I gave up on finding some waterproof all weather textile trousers ages ago, i use some as they're warmer in colder weather but have found a cheap pair of overtrousers (ex school crossing patrol..so in fetching hi viz yellow) have been water tight just worn over leather jeans, plus they roll up and go in the back pocket of my jacket. A mate of mine spent a fortune on the BMW get up and guess what..it leaked as well. The best waterproof over suit i have is an old lewis leathers one, a bit retro in an 90's kinda way but i had a good bit of advice when i got it from an older workmate, i cut the crap mesh inner lining from it and duct taped the inner crutch and leg seams up on the inside. This has worked and its been waterproof for 20 odd years now, if i ever bought a new one, i'd still tape it up the inside as i don't trust any makers claims these days. The best bit about the mesh liner in my old wet suit was the entertainment value for onlookers as i'd have to do some weird sort of Irish jig to get the damm thing on over my bike gear, at least i was very warm by the time it was on.
Chaos is the only camoflage that incompetence needs to operate at full capacity.

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of petrol on the bike before i can think straight again.

Don't be conned by buying a BMW Rallye suit, it leaks like a sieve - even with the Goretex liners

Only trouble is no one can find you when you come off!

Re: Waterproofs is there such a thing??? 10 months, 2 weeks ago #147973

Army gortex for offroading and JTS all in one condom for road, had them both 4 to 5 years and do the job well. Just make sure you get them on before your other stuff gets wet.
Also go and try them on wearing your normal gear-no good having to strip off in the rain to wear them or rip them open trying to get your arms or boots in.

Tried and tested by myself on a number of occasions riding for hours on end in the pouring rain over a number of days and completely water proof

Weise over trousers £17 and Ride recommended as well

I commute 55 miles every day, all year round and I had trouble finding a dry solution for my seat area! Now, you might think this looks silly but it works really well

Only good if you are staying on the road but goes a long way to keeping your legs dry.
