Right, I wanted add some extra lights to the GS so I thought I would post a step by step guide to fitting a set of LEDs to a R1200GS using an autoswitch 7.
I decided on the one in this thread

I had already fitted some Hepco and Becker upper tank bars so I had somewhere to fit them. I had to loosely bolt them on so we could route the wiring, but we needed to take the tank off which involved removing the tank bars again.
So I unbolted them and attached them temporally via cable ties.
Now I'm not going to list everything you need to do to take the tank off because it is fairly straight forward, it can be done in 20mins
Once you have the tank off you need to access the large block connector in the centre, to remove this you have to pull firmly on the T clip that faces the front of the bike and that will release the block connector.
Now we removed the top plastic cover with a small screw driver, you need to push it into one of the slots each side then slide off the cover, you can see which ones they are as they have a slightly different shape to the others. I have found with the BMW electrical connectors if you are having to push or pull hard you haven't released the tab/connector properly.
This is where you wire into the loom, you need to find the Blue/white wire which is the trigger wire from the indicator cancel switch and the red/green wire which is the switched power supply.
The red/green is a heavier wire located near the bottom with the heavier Red and Brown wires, for the Blue/white wire you will have to sort through the loom to find, but its easy enough to find.
Please note these are the colours for my 04 GS they might be different for other year/models.
We then mounted the A7 next to the block with the 3m sticky pad provided.
I personally don't like scotch locks as they eventually cut through the cable with time so we soldered into the loom.
We then mounted a relay, we found a tab on the frame which was not being used with easy access on the off side of the bike so we used that.
Here it is with the relay fitted, the LEDs only draw 2amps at the most so a small relay is ideal.
We then earthed to the front of the frame where the front subframe connects, we had to grind the paint off to get a good earth.It was then covered in corrosion block grease.
With the under tank bits done, we cabled tied any excess wiring up and recovered the loom in loom tape.
The A7 comes with a LED indicator light, this tells you how the switch is operating. Basically if you press the indicator cancel switch once as normal it works as a normal switch, but if you hold it down for 2seconds it the turns your aux lights either on or off, cool hey. The LED tells you by changing colour and flashing.I have cabled tied it next to the ignition switch, but not sure if it will stay there or moved somewhere else, got to think about that one.
It took two of us about four hours from start to finish including a lunch break.
As you can see I can have the lights on when I want, they are not linked to either dip or main, I just change the angle of attack.
I think they add to the overall look of the bike, and saves the need for another switch on the handlebars. Because they are linked to the accessory side of the loom they stay on after you have turned the ignition off for about 30secs (BMW R1200GS's have a timer delay on the accessory side of the loom) that should be funny for the first time at work when I walk away from the bike leaving the lights on and they then turn themselves off
