Luggage straps - any help/advice 10 months, 2 weeks ago #156094

Hopefully off to Ireland next month for a quick 8/9 day trip - Riding Triumph Explorer with factory luggage - Heres the deal want to do a few days camping whilst over there so I would like to strap a tent and sleeping bags to panniers/top box but not sure about what straps to buy ?

Mini Ratchet Straps

Cargo Net

also the

Zuru Link Strap's are very good.

It might be an idea to use some of that anti slip matting between your tent etc and the panniers / topbox to stop things sliding around.

I've always used standard luggage type straps from Aldi/Lidl and the like, with a metal one way system? Not sure what it's called. Cut to appropriate length, seal ends by waving a lit match under them, job done

Hi use these..

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-2-5m-Med-Luggage-...;hash=item2a1289c0b7

been all over europe never any problem..they come indifferent lengths too..

also mounted these in pannier tops with some clear silicone to prevent water ingress..

just cut bolts too length..

happy bodging

Yup - me too - though mine are from Hein Gerike. I also throw a cargo net over the roll bag - not to hold it down - but so I can stuff things underneath it when pottering around town or stopped (real handy if windy).

halfords for me... their black non-ratchet straps have served me well for the last 6 or so years...

ROK Straps. You can get them from Amazon quite cheaply. Strapped my sleeping bag, tent and sleeping mat with them with no slipeage in 4 weeks.
Not used bungees since a 'near miss' almost took my eye out!

can get in pairs for a couple of quid from most camping stores. i use them as compression straps for my tent.

oxford flat strap bungees are good, also hein gericke adjustable bungees. even strips of velcro.

+1 for ROK straps. No contest, wouldn't even think about standard straps again.

... You'll love Ireland by the way, have you been over before? Make sure you come North!

+ 2 for the ROKs

Bought some a month ago & like Vindaloo, I'd never go back to cheapo ones again

Make that another one for RokStraps: I've used nothing else in the last five years or so. I use the ones with fabric loop-through ends, and they are VERY secure.

Re: Luggage straps - any help/advice 10 months, 2 weeks ago #156249

Just bought some ROK straps in the Hein Gericke closing down sale, glad i did now reading this. So far they look good had a practice strapping all the kit onto the bike with them and they seem really simple. As said they're more secure than bungies and are much less effort and faffing around than ratchet straps. Looking forwards to having a run out with them now.
Everything happens for a reason.
