Hi and welcome to ABR

Re: newbie in broxbourne 10 months, 3 weeks ago #154557

Greeings from Essex,
I'm pretty sure there's quite a few lanes around your way, they should all be marked as BOAT's (Byways Open To All Traffic) on OS Explorer maps.
Google your local TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship)they should be able to help you along.

Hi I'm near Camden Town...I was going to join TRF but want to look into it a little more to see if its worth while...

Re: newbie in broxbourne 10 months, 3 weeks ago #154583

did they want you to pay to register? there is a guy near me who knows where to ride, he has told me to buy a certain map for wh smiths which will have the boats on them, will keep you updated about a ride on sunday depending on work

Welcome mate, I'm just up the road in Stevenage, fellow ABR member Bumblebeemer is in Broxbourne too.

If you fancy a trip out anytime, I'm happy to show you the local lanes.

Don't write the TRF off altogether as they are more than happy for non members to come along on their rides and have a try out before you join and it's not just the knowledge that you are paying for, the TRF campaign to keep lanes open so it's to your benefit and if you get it wrong as a member you get their legal support too.

You also get full access to www.trailwise.org.uk which will show you where to ride, you can look as a member of the public but are limited to a 3km search area, like this:

www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm??sq=...h=072&distance=3

The brown route on the map is the only one open to bikes on this map, the purple ones are closed to vehicles.

This area is better

www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm??sq=...h=080&distance=3

The red and brown routes are legal if you click on the link for each lane you go to an information page and can link to the start and finish on an Ordnance Survey Map

Looks like KKat is up for a ride Sunday

Check out his post www.adventurebikerider.com/forum/29-meet...ading-on-sunday.html

So why not come along? I'm sure details of where to meet wil be sorted soon.

It will be nothing technical as I will be christening my 990 Adventure rather than the CCM.

If you get a map beforehand, I'll bring my highlighter pen and mark up the routes.

Best map is OS Landranger 1:50,000(Red Cover) Sheet No 166 "Luton and Hertford"

Or if you want a bigger scale (but harder to manage on a bike) then get the OS Explorer 1:25,000 (Orange covers) sheets number 174 "Epping Forest & Lee Valley", number 194 "Hertford & Bishops Stortford and number 193 "Luton & Stevenage".
