Hi ya! Whereabouts "down South" are you?

Give this a look for lanes in your neighbourhood www.trailwise.org.uk

As you are new to this and the Tenere can be a bit of a lump, I wouldn't recommend going out alone. See if you can find some locals on here or investigate your local TRF group

Hi Mad Cow,

I just followed the link you sent to Trail wise and was going to register, as they will only show tracks with in a 3 mile radius to non members...

One of the requirements for registration is to be a member of CRAG, GLASS or TRF...im assuming after you register with one of these organisation you receive a *Registration Key*?? does that sound right?

Any reason I should join one over the others?

Re: green lines for rookie 9 months, 3 weeks ago #154148

Well, the TRF is motorcycle-specific and covers all of England and Wales with about 40 local groups.

Membership is per 12 months, rather than calendar year, so whenever you join you get a full year for your cash.

www.trf.org.uk, or click on the box that periodically appears in the rh top corner of this forum.

As Richard says the TRF is bike specific so most probably most suitable:)

GLASS and CRAG are for all users but are predominantly 4x4 owners (Although GLASS does have a few biker members and a lot of ex bikers who have switched to four wheels)

Re: green lines for rookie 9 months, 3 weeks ago #155012

Thank you,
i was looking at TRF, closest to me are Southampton and Isle of Wight, as i am in Portsmouth,
On the TRF forum, they organising big thing on the 26th. Aug. at Peak District!!!!
I will probably be there, as Leeds festival is same weekend....
Will be joining them soon....as i got my bike last weekend still gearing up, everything is so expensive (jackets, trousers....) and as new dirt/off road rider not sure will be able to keep a pace with the guys....
Thinking to take two days off road training?
Is it worth it?
Take care, have great weekend and many happy and dirty miles!!!

Welcome Ninothedude.

TRF or GLASS?

Well since I do green laning on both my BMW GS and my Land Rover Discovery (coincidentally also as GS) I joined both.

Both need our support and it helps to show solidarity amongst responsible green lane users.

26th August is my sons birthday, so we're all showing up in the Landy to give support. Too important to miss. See you in the Peak District.

For ages Ive been meaning to do a post on what gear is useful when greenlaning

However a bad case of cant be bothered has set in on the forums

when your laning especially in summer heat is the problem so wearing mx stuff really helps but you really should have armour underneath a pressure suit and knee guards
both bits of armour can be got for under 70 quid.
a camel pack is essential as far as im concerned you can keep hydrated far easier less agro finding somewhere to get a drink or even stopping to open a rucksack then faffing around just clip the tube in place and its easy to reach keep sipping while ridding.
Army goretex socks tenner essential
Army goretex jacket 35 quid new and trousers 20quid ish off ebay ,just type army sizes into google and use the charts to work out your size
gloves your preference i use neopren with palm savers
good mx boots could save you 6 weeks in plaster or worse

hornet
muddy dirty fun in the sun or rain
Id rather be cleaning my bike than driving a car
