ABR BlogsSite members stories and experiences Travel Jitters!!About 4 years ago I bought an 18000 mile Transalp 600 with the aim of sprucing it up and taking the adventure I have always said I would do, which for me was to ride from UK to Italy, possibly get the ferry across to Corfu and back possibly dipping into Spain as well on the return, who knows but generally heading south into Europe. I bought the TA as it was all I could afford at the time and seemed to have reports of being bullet proof. At 5’7” it’s about as tall a bike as I want. After life’s normal twists and turns which scuppered my plans completely, I am finally in a position to embark on this adventure, the TA has had all its bits changed and is back on the road once more still with only 18000 on the clock and looking pretty....but now I’m here and having read ABR recently I am starting to doubt the whole thing....is the bike good enough....am I mad to want to do this alone on a 1997 bike? Should I get better bike? What if what if what if????I read all the articles and travel stories of people touring on nice big BMW’s with all the whistles and bells but you never hear any tales of travel on a humble 600 TA. Now I’m here at the point where I can finally fulfil that dream.....sadly I am also on the verge of bottling it!! Comments

Last year my first trip was 10000 miles on a transalp with no problems in the least. My bike was faultless in every aspect. Don't think about it just enjoy yourself & good luck. Ps. Make sure your chain & sprockets are good.

Hems, If you are thinking of bottling out I can totaly understand where you are coming from. But seriously check the bike over take some basic tools some spares (plug cable ties spare tube) and just go do it, You'll have a ball mate.

Go for it! Just like everyone has said, service the bike, breakdown cover and a mobile phone. What can go wrong???????? 18000 miles on a new bike no problem. I took a 1949 Notron on a few trips to Spain and Switzerland, no problem! Just got back from a trip to the Alps on my newest bike, Harley with only 120, 000 miles on it and only 32 years old.
I look foreward to reading your report when you return. Bonne Voyage. Boo.

Go for it. I've travelled for over 50 years on bikes old (doggy but maintained) and new. Never stuck yet. Probably will head out again this year. Life is not a practise, it only comes around once. Smile when you meet people, it's a passport to good times. Best of Luck and ENJOY IT !
